I'm not very familiar with 52's but is the barrel held in with a set-screw, or are you talking about some kind of a stock screw tuner arrangement like the 40x had? From the "Torque wrench for action and barrel screw." thread. I'd look at the scope and barrel tension screw first.

A few months ago someone posted an interesting idea on this forum. Put a spider on both ends of a pipe, clamp one end in the chuck and spin the other in a steady rest.

IIRC they have a small tenon diameter. Probably a bigger factor than the 3-lug bolt with rounds bigger (in diameter) than the 222.
