    Barrel Crown

When I noticed Dennis mention his 60` crowning tool I bought them right away, that was 4 years ago. Since I already had a bunch of reamers and pilots, the tool cost was low. About the 90` degree crown versus a 60` crown chamfer, I think it is obvious that flat based bullets and boat tail...

    Chamber and Reamer

Gordy, I must admit your finding in this surprised me. When prebored up to the shoulder the reamer always cuts at a 45` at the case mouth smaller than bore diameter, this depth of cut is significant. However, as you already know and pointed it out here, the total length of lands being cut at...

    Chamber and Reamer

Barrel spring back from what? If your throating after reaming just how much force are you putting on a barrel that it springs back? The angle of the ogive in relation with the angle of the reamer, as well as the diameter of each, determine where contact is made. If your looking for 4 grooves...

    Dillon RL 550B Reloading Press

Don't overlook a Hornady Lock N Load, they are great presses. Not knocking the Dillon but I prefer the Hornady. I can't figure out the cult like following Dillon has, perhaps it comes from the very early days of Dillon and before my time. If your going through 400 rounds a weekend the Hornady...

    Pacific Tool and Gauge

I finally got my reamer the other day, 4 months later. Bad thing is, it was the wrong reamer. Project cancelled. Live and learn.

4140 for bushing firing pin hole?

I use pre hardened 4140, same material as most rifle bolts. I have used grade 8 bolts before, one target rifle I have with a grade 8 bolt material bushing has over 3000 very very hot rounds through it and the bushing is as new.

    Printing a tool!!!

As I said, this one is fake or at least false advertising. Sure, out popped a wrench, we're not arguing that as it's old news, but the copy is not a copy of the wrench provided.

    Printing a tool!!!

This one is fake, look at the very last second of the video where it shows both att he same time. Without any doubt it is not a copy nor even close.

    Will your scope do this?

The first time you get to shoot in ultra clear air the scope will be worth every penny. Most times I shoot the mirage is there or the air is not clear. It was real nice to spot roofing nails holding the backer on at 800M with my Nightforce though. I'd love to have the 8-80, if I could sell my...

    Die Squeezing Bases Too Much

Alan, if the brass is squeezed down .002" it will not remain there when removed from the die because it springs back a bit. I believe .003" keeps a sizing die working without trouble. Perhaps .002" at the base is what they are after allowing for .001" springback. If your chamber is .001 too...

    Case chamfer/deburr machine

If you buy a cheap benchtop drill press you can prep cases in a real hurry. 1000 223 cases trimmed to length with a LEE gauge/cutter in the chuck and the lock nut and case in your hand takes little time. Outside and inside chamfering is two steps but do all cases once then flip the tool. Very...

    AR 15 Barrel Tenon ??

I was told and use 100` chamfer at a max diameter of .500" for cases in the .378" size. On my lathe this setting reads 40` because my zero is actually 90` from centerline.

    Killing Primers

I tried killing primers with common shop chemicals such as oil, wd40 etc. They didn't get 100% killed and many would definately ingite a round. Remember, when you fire off a primer, the firing pin strike will remain full depth and therefore look very deep compared to a live round.

    Pacific Tool and Gauge

I called today and inquired about my order placed in March. Our postal service is about to go on strike so things aren't looking good from any direction. It looks like my order was lost, crap. At least they promised I would be high on the priority list. Kathleen is always pleasant to talk...

    Does my method look sound?

Ian, this is what Savage uses, Springfield Armoury at one time as well. http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?73328-Chucking-up-a-barrel-quot-Part-deux-quot

    Does my method look sound?

A good surface finish makes a nice tool. The inside of the action isn't burr free and alters the true centerline. Also, the action is warped a little so you normally won't get a single sized home made tool to fit all the way through and be tight on both ends. Carefully examining the raceway...

Puzzled with these new fangled barrels

Sorry to burst your bubble but I think your copper remover went bad. Rem hammer forges inhouse and Savage button pulls in house, both still foul and the Sav shows chatter marks and fouls badly but usually shoots as good or better than most factory rifles.

    Victor Lathes

No, but I did notice the base was one piece cast which must weigh more than that lathe for it to add up to nearly 2800 lbs. Are you SURE it is Taiwanese?
