    Rear rest sand

A sand that maintains it's grain shape longer would be the Black Diamond blasting sand that you can purchase at Tractor Supply or similar retailers. It has a "jagged" shape and although doesn't weigh as much as heavy sand it is pretty close and doesn't pack like other sands . I like this sand...

    Wilson Seating Die

Dan, I don't remember the thread but ...If you send Wilson your seater body and a case they will ream out the inside of the seater to fit your case . I think they just ask you to send $6 for shipping (it may be more $ today) and you will generally get it back in a week. I have had this done a...

Has the fad run its course ?

When I was a teenager I would spend any free time I had pestering a local gunsmith named Bob Jerrue while he was working in his basement shop. One day he gave in to my pestering him and took me out to shoot a single-shot falling block rifle with a large diameter barrel chambered in the 219...

600 yard match at Piedmont yesterday........

We had a "new to 600 yd. benchrest" shooter at Piedmont Saturday named Matthew Bennett . Looking over the results from LG ( the only class Matt shot) I noticed Matt shot a 1.289" group on his first target. That might have been the small group of the day. I thought that was pretty impressive for...

    Soft Shell Gun Cases

For 600 yd. rifles I need one that is 50" to 51" in length and still accommodate a scope. That eliminates most soft gun cases but there are some good soft gun cases that are both but hard to find. Rodney

    ejection problems

If in fact your action is a Stolle/Grizzly you can get Kelblys to install there static ejector which uses no spring . You can control how your cases eject by how hard you pull the bolt back. IMHO it's the best ejector for the short (hard to eject) PPC/BR cases. In most instances the static...

    Any snow pictures

I don't have any snow pictures all we have left is frozen slush and mud but I got this email from a friend and I think he is pulling my leg.... "Well, I just talked to a friend of mine in Minneapolis. He said that since early this morning, all his wife has done is look through the kitchen...

James, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your article about tuning with Jack Neary . This is the very type of article I like to read in PS . Good job ! Keep it up.......Rodney

Need a coating that is slippery to N133 and ideas for powder pumps.

Mike is right the Chargemaster 1500 can easily be programed to speed up dispensing powder. The link Mike gave has another link within it that lists all the programing codes. I didn't think that a dummy like myself could do it but Wayne Campbell walked me through it on my unit at Unaka this past...

    Superfeet design

The only time my superfeet failed to hold was when the shooter I was sharing a bench with spilled a whole bottle of talcum powder all over the concrete bench top . I had to wash the baby powder off the superfeet and the bench top with water before they would take hold again. Rodney

Who is going to the 600 Nationals in St Louis?

James, It probably be a good idea to pre-register. This event will probably be well attended. Here is a link to registration info: http://internationalbenchrest.com/schedule/featured_events.php

    Piedmont 600 Crew- Thanks!

I agree with Sam and Greg ...the Piedmont Gun Club sets the standard for running a 600 yd. BR match in the east. Rodney

    Oak Ridge, TN

Thanks guys but I think everything I had yesterday was used up on that one group as the rest of the targets didn't look all that good. It was a straight 6 BR and I thought it was going to be a cool day yesterday and loaded for cool weather but it turned out to be rather warm. Rodney

birddog, Boy, you Tenn boys get up early. LOL! We had 8 shooters in each class so we were able to have a registered match . I don't have a copy of the results but from memory I know that John Lewis won both score and group in HG as well as the HG agg of course and Mike Hanes won LG group but I...

    Long Range 6mmPPC

I have tried a 22 PPC fast twist barrel for 600yd. BR but not a 6 PPC but if you are looking for something different and are wanting to use a PPC bolt you may want to consider a 6/6.5 Grendel. It is basically an "improved" 6 PPC and I know H4895 was a good powder for mine. Lapua offers 6.5...

    Denver Instruments MXX-123 Scale

Lynn, The Acculab is no more durable than the Denver Instruments and I would not use them anywhere that there are drafts, vibrations, fluorescent lighting or other electronics being used. Tactical they are not and I have owned both and usually like to keep them powered on all the time as they...

    Denver Instruments MXX-123 Scale

As Centerfire just suggested go to Affordable Scales they also have the Acculab VIC-123 which the Denver 123 is a clone of . The Adam Equipment scale sounds interesting but I have never used one but can say the Acculab VIC-123 works nicely and the dust cover is a nice feature. The cover comes...

    New Norma 6 P.P.C. brass

Norma PPC Brass This is good to hear. I'm supposed to be getting a small quantity of the Norma PPC brass from Dave Kiff to try and it would be nice to turn necks for a .262" neck with just one pass. My experience with Norma 22-250 and 6 BR brass is it was very soft. Is there PPC brass not as...
