    Srb 118?

I've heard there's a not inconsiderable stockpile in Wisconsin as well.

Remington 700 question on firing pin - intermittent misfire

I once had a problem with ignition failure. About 5-10% of primers would not go off. It turns out that the tip of the firing pin was slightly bent. This caused it to travel slow enough that some primers would not go off. Very frustrating until I figured it out. You should keep in mind that...

    Yep, you are correct.

    Machine shop building question

Lee, A couple suggestions on the floor finish. Be careful with the grit you use for a non slip surface. Coarse grit in the top coat will shred any sort of sponge or mop that you use to clean the floor. Also if you seal the floor don't use a common acrylic sealer like my landlord did. Any...

    Oatey cutting oil

The best cutting oil I have used is Master Chemical Trim OM300. Wait until MSC has a free shipping deal going on and try a gallon of it. Oatey is nice because you can usually buy it locally.

    Scope and Bore not parallel

I'm curious to see what would happen if you flipped the rings around. If your windage condition reversed, you could then flip one ring around and it should correct. Only if something is wonky with the rings, of course. Or you could possibly correct this by having someone drill and tap the...

    Bix 'n Andy action?

That blue polymer sleeve is a bearing cage. All the little bumps are ball bearings. I believe it's called a ball bearing guide bushing. In theory it would provide very good guidance to the firing pin, but I'm not sure if it would qualify as low friction with the small bearing diameter and...

    Bix 'n Andy action?

I would say that actually looks like a 6 lug with a 60 degree throw.

    New to the .30 BR

I see these occasional flyers in my 30br if I'm jamming the bullet too hard. Usually backing it off stops these flyers, but it may open the group just slighty. It's a worthwhile tradeoff in score shooting.

    James Lederer Barrels

Hi all. I'm James Lederer. I thought I'd stop by and introduce myself; I figured one of these threads would pop up sooner or later. I've been shooting benchrest in competition since 2006, and I've been working in the barrel industry since 2004. I began making barrels at Rock Creek Barrels...

5R cut rifled barrels not recommended by Krieger in 6mm - slower twist then 1-9t

I have rifled many 5R barrels, and I would agree that 5R rifling in a PPC or other slow twist 6mm barrel is problematic. Some have been able to get them to shoot acceptably, but as Boyd said it does require a hot load. I think he is probably on the right track. There is also a possibly that...

    Who has barrels??

I have one in stock. It's not a Bartlein or a Krieger, but it is cut rifled.

Clarifying definitions for Jump, Touch, Off, Jam and Push Back.

I keep it pretty simple. I back the bullet off in .005" increments until I can't feel the bullet seat when I close the bolt. That's when it usually really starts shooting and flyers go away. It also allows you to extract a live round without dumping a case full of powder in your action...

    H4198 color change?

I called Hodgdon back, and this time was told that it is just the coating used to adjust burn rate. This jug of powder was made October of last year. I'm going to shoot it (with caution) and I'll report back.

    H4198 color change?

I also told them I bought it secondhand, and they immediately latched onto that fact and how foolish it is to do that. I don't feel like I got a real clear answer.

    H4198 color change?

I called Hodgdon today, they told me that the color was unusual and I should approach with caution. The date code indicates it was manufactured on 10/24/2013, so it's a fairly recent jug of powder. Does anyone else have 4198 from the same period, and what color is it?

    H4198 color change?

That's a good question. I think I'll call tomorrow. I was worried that someone might have refilled the jug with IMR 4198, but the measured kernel size is identical to H4198. IMR has much longer kernels.

    Bartlien Barrels

The barrel they are chambering in that video appears to be a test barrel for a Modern Bond Universal Receiver. They typically have a 2" diameter breech end, which would be one reason it is not in the headstock.

    H4198 color change?

I just bought an opened 8lb jug of Hodgdon 4198. It looks a little different than what I am used to seeing. It has a darker gray color. I'm used to seeing the tannish/greenish colored kernels. Other than the color the shape and size of the kernels is what I would expect. The orange sticker...
