    Threading issue.

Often we read posts and have an idea that just ain't worth bringing up for the sake of more conversation if oyu know what I mean. Regardless, sometimes its a hellofa lot easier to patch the problem than to repair the cause. Often I take my chuck out of gear and turn it by hand for the final...

    Screw removal advice

Seems like a lot of hassle Al, just seems like it. Mess it up and then talk about hassle. Good job Enahs. "This should work" or "I didn't think it would break" has been uttered by people that did not take the task serious enough. The mill or drill press is a very god one for those objects you...

New brass VS zero headspace chamber

.006" is more than I want to stretch my brass. This isn't a hunting rifle, it's an F Class competition rifle requiring at least 500 brass. Why are we accepting the fact that brass needs to be fireformed so much? My new brass fits my chamber very well except for the length and I can fix that...

New brass VS zero headspace chamber

You quessed it, brass is .006" under minimum headspace spec which chamber is made to. I'm thinking reshoulder this barrel back .005" and modify shellholder if needed. Any thoughts?

    Reamer Bushing storage

I really need a new method to store my reamer bushings. I was thinking of a fishing tackle style case with a tiny compartment for each bushing. It would have to be marked to indicate which tenth it was of course. What do you guys use? As I typed this post I imagined a reloading block style...

    Quadlite ejector

Better late than never. Way back a year ago... I received the new ejector from RPA but it was identical. I just made a new ejector and it is fine. To be honest, I simply cannot remember if the hole was offest impropely or it was on an angle. I think it was offset improperly, an angle would...

    Remington Firing Pin

jkob, the cocking piece should not bottom on the bolt body, the firing pin stop is built into the firing pin and it contacts the bolt head washer. There is a washer inside a rem 700 bolt body between the head and tube, the head is silver soldered onto the bolt body, it is not a one piece item...

Chambering a barrel for a savage action

The Savage is super easy to do. I chamber a little bit deep to a finish I like and never worry about the exact depth. I usually ream .472" bolt face Savages to depth by rough guess, say around .080" of the gauge sticking out. Then I face it so the gauge is protruding .125" and polish it up a...

Chambering a barrel for a savage action

No they are not, just like a rem, sometimes they work but I wouldn't count on it. Profile it down to 1.0625" like a factory barrel [actually they are around 1.055" major but the pitch diameter is correct] and forget it. You could do as Nat suggested but if the barrel was swapped to a factory...

Can a Remington 7mmMag bolt face be bushed to 30-06?

Here is what Dennis wrote. Al, you say your not in 100% agreement. I say you just want to argue :) jkob, can you post some quality pics of the action and these features? I have never seen the new Tikka you talk about and would like to see its design.

Anybody have a clue about Remington's shop charges ?

Sending to Rem for another bolt is not cost effective if you are making a specific rifle. If the average Joe lost the bolt out of his favorite hunting rifle then sure, send it in. Used 700's are constantly available, buy another whenever if ever you need to. Sell the 7mm, it is not what you...

My bad, it does not say stainless.

    remington 700 action?????

I happen to have a few actions lying around waiting for barrels so I snapped a pic for those who might be curious. Besides the width difference point for timing the round when it pops out of the mag, note the 308 has a bevel on the rails and on the top of the action an ejection relief.

Can a Remington 7mmMag bolt face be bushed to 30-06?

Now I'm laughing. Not at you, with you. I picked up a 700 for the action the other day, $380 at Epps. Early BDL or CDL 7mm Rem Mag, no anti bind and the old trigger with a two piece sear. I didn't need it but for the price and knowing very soon someone would ask me to build them one I picked...

    Rebar barrel

3 things come to mind The front site and scope base installation is interesting, it looks like bubble gum and rabbit wire, really looks like it. Why such a piece of rebar couldn't be used for a 22lr escapes me. Pretty close to April 1 right now.

Can a Remington 7mmMag bolt face be bushed to 30-06?

PT&G sells one piece stainless bolts that are milled from a solid piece of stock so the handle is not a separate piece, $197. You can select options as well, rem extractor for LA .484, specific OD, fluting etc. Tac bolt knobs are $9, ejector kits are $8 and they sell rem style extractors for...

    Live and Learn, muzzlebrakes...

Al, would you mind posting the pros and cons of some of these brakes and why you chose to use one brand? Well now I'm curious, can anyone here do this and post it? Cheers

    Live and Learn, muzzlebrakes...

Unless your rifle barrel is 6" long the pressure at the end of the barrel was not 50 000 psi, more like 3000 - 5000 psi. Just make one without an expansion chamber.

    Technical reamer question

I don't think you have to figure out any numbers, send it to a different reamer maker and ask for it to be made to his proper spec if it is not correct. Did you recheck your floating reamer holder? Unless a good holder is used properly the chamber stands little chance of being made to size...

    SSG True Bore Alignment System

Not seeing why this is better than a jig for action truing. If your stressing the action to align it then you are not using the jig properly. Even if I had one for free instead of paying $1140 dollars, I would use my jig. For barrel work it is effective but I can buy a lot of copper wire...
