    Carbon ring on shoulder

Thats kind of what Im thinking but after only 4 or 5 firings thats pretty quick to work harden. Im gonna try annealing the same brass and see if that helps.

Need help with chamber pre-drill and bore.

step boring Here's a couple of formulas for step boring, A and B are most reamer prints and I came up with a formula for the prints that don't have values for A and B. First time doing it you may want to go .20 or so undersize and bore a bit short of the shoulder. JCK

    Carbon ring on shoulder

I have noticed with one of my 6ppc barrels that the carbon ring will move down the neck a little each firing untill there is a carbon ring on the shoulders. I have measured my fired brass and my loaded rounds and all seems good. I have set the barrel back shot it without roughing or polishing...

    Another Barrel setup question

OK..To be more specific, Im referring to the method of dialing in at 2 points. One at the throat(with a long pointed test indicator) and one at the muzzle then preboring for the chamber. I have searched it and I couldnt find where anyone was using just a dial test indicator on the muzzle end, I...

    Another Barrel setup question

Is there anything wrong with dialing in just using DTIs? What I mean is using just a DTI to dial in the muzzle end in the outbound spider and a DTI at the projected throat location. I notice most use range rods or pin gauges on the muzzle end, and I was wondering if theres any cons to just using...

    Thread chatter only with carbide

thread issues I finally got it cutting decent threads again after some more tweaking of the motor mounts and sharpening and properly setting my tool. I still am suspect of the motor as it makes some strange sounds from time to time and gets pretty hot (cant hold finger on it for more than a...

    Thread chatter only with carbide

I have removed the second belt, I have been setting the compound at 29.5 and going in .005 4 3 3 3 till I get close and then 2 1 1 1 and then usually .0005-.001 in on the cross-slide. This method seemed to work great untill recently when I started getting chatter.

    Thread chatter only with carbide

thread chatter issue Heres a pic I took tonight after rough cutting at 65rmp, yes I know they are sharp and jagged but this is just a piece of barrel stub I have been using to troubleshoot with. You can see lines parallel to the threads and the chatter is very faint now and can barely be seen...
