Jerry, Did you get a actual pure magic with just the neck larger? If so, you will probably run into case and die problems....big time. Hovis

    .268 neck information your experience

Dusty is right on the bushings... .263, .264, .265. Start with the .264 Neck thickness I shoot for is .0117 Measure a neck with the bullet seated on the first one you turn and fine tune the cut. Use that piece of brass for dummy rounds from there on. Hovis

I'd like to get a better set of dies

Do you have a bullet comparator (ogive tool) to measure your loaded rounds? If not, stop.....and get one. Measuring to bullet tip is a surefire way of thinking you have a problem when you may not. Hovis

    Jewell trigger problem(I think)

Almost everytime before I shoot, I put some lighter fluid down through the top.....after a while, you will literally know when you go to the line and haven't done it. Dwight turned me onto doing this several years ago, since then, I have never had a failure to cock. Hovis

Enlarged primer pockets, all of a sudden

I wish I could get barrels that shot well for 4000 rds. I would build a special rack/display for that barrel and hang it on the wall, it deserves it. Hovis

Enlarged primer pockets, all of a sudden

I would bet that a new barrel would solve the problem. I take my 6ppc barrels and put them on a varmit gun (I have a varmit gun with the same custom action) and I shoot the dog out of them. What your describing is a fouling/carbon problem. Here is how to diagnosis where it is: After cleaning...

New rifle is driving me crazy

Paul, One thing I forgot to say, if you can repeat your first strings with a known clean barrel, I would settle there. That is some good accruacy out of a factory gun. Sometimes you just have to know when to jump up from the bench and do a happy dance. .3xx-.5xx out of any factory rifle makes...

New rifle is driving me crazy

Are you cleaning between the different powders? If not, that's a big problem. Next, that thin barrel isn't taking the heat and that's normal. If I shoot a five shot group out of a barrel like that, it usually take about 30 min for it to cool down enough to trust it again. Here's my...

    Bullet/case run out Whats acceptable?

Don and Boyd gave some good advice. If you think the seater is the culprit, there is a couple of things you can try before you have it touched up by a gunsmith. One, replace the set screw with one that has a plastic ball on the end. This will hold the stem in place with less tension (tension...

    Packing materials disposal

I had a pet rock, named him Rocky. Since people manicure, etc their dogs, I formed him into a nice smooth oval and polished him to a high gloss shine. He was so cute, I decided to take him to work. As soon as I put him on my desk, he left the desk and went to my co-workers cube next to me. He...

    Bullet/case run out Whats acceptable?

JRB, I think you are getting tunnel focused on the bushing clearance. Horizontal and Vertical cleanance of the bushin is a non-issue, forget about it. The bushing could be a problem but not the clearance. If you have tried several bushings, then bushings are not the issue either. 1. Different...

    Chargemaster inserts

Wonderful aren't they Jerry, I bought them for the two chargemasters I have, made new machines out of them. It's hard to believe they work as well as they do. Hovis

    Rail gun/barrel block

My gunsmith told me to start at 25 inch pounds and go up to 80 inch pounds in 10 inch pound increments to find a torque tuning as he called it. He shot his way into the HOF with a rail and said some will like a certain amount of torque. Mine didn't like the light torque but anything from 45-80...

    Bullet/case run out Whats acceptable?

JRB, 1. leave your sizing die lock ring loose and size a piece....what is the runout? 2. what is the runout sizing without the bushing? If the sizing die is the problem, here is the potential problems: 1. Shellholder, however, you said you checke this. 2. Press is not in alignment. 3...
