    A guy owns a one-piece cleaning rod,

People borrow guns all the time in this country. I even store a couple of my fathers guns during the match season so he doesn’t have to make a 40-mile trip every time we go shooting. I believe (hope) what you’re saying is that if you start a business working on other peoples guns for a profit...

    Keeping gun in tune.

I’m just guessing out loud Gene. It may not be a factor worth worrying about when it comes to tune. But I’m not sure anyone will convince me that air resistance and changing air density isn’t a factor when something moves in (against) air. Wonder what an adjustable trim-tab would do at the end...

    Keeping gun in tune.

My guess is, changing external air density not only affects a barrels ability to move, but its forced vibration pattern.

    40x Vs. Cooper

I’d shoot it the way it is until it throws so many shots you cant stand it anymore, then buy a new barrel.

    reactive target suggestions

Now that's funny! :D Considering where you’re posting, its like walking up to a group of teenage boys and saying “ya know, just like you guys, I get tired of thinking about cars and girls, girls and cars, cars and girls….” LOL I did plasma cut some spring loaded prairie dogs and a rabbit last...

    .009 world record ?

I think the biggest problem is that most CNC machines don’t sit outside in a rain storm, lightning strikes, ect. A moving backer is simple, cheep and has a good chance of working in the rain and snow, but in the end the simple requirement of a moving backer and the effort involved to move it...

How do we increase membership today?

I was going to post a long reply with suggestions, but its just not important. If you don’t believe its not important go to the home page and click on the NBRSA records link. 2003 rings a bell…. Isn’t that the last time the NBRSA records were updated on the internet? The IBS sure has a cool...

To glue or not to glue, Calfee

I remember someone saying a very important part of the BOSS system was the use of rubber bedding compound. They dont glue the action in. I’ve also heard of using devcon liquid rubber with flexible stocks (soft bedding for soft stocks), because it allows the stock and action to flex while still...

To glue or not to glue, Calfee

That’s one way to kill a thread! Ok, I'll risk my user account and bite because I'm interested in hearing more discussion on this subject. ;) Your statement makes it sound like only the incompetent and incapable find improvement by gluing any action into any stock. Have you found your...

    Jim Borden and Tuners

Lynn, Did you read Kirk’s post in Bill’s thread on the rimfire forum before it was deleted by Wilbur with the notation “Not worth nuthin‘ !!!”? Apparently the (rimfire) barrel Bill said was stopped in just 21 rounds (in his center fire forum thread) didn’t remain stopped very long. I only...

How deep to chamber a .22 rimfire?

I was typing while you were posting Kent. Thanks for your post, good information and the just touching part helps explain the results I’ve seen with my last barrel. Jim

How deep to chamber a .22 rimfire?

IIRC, .040 to .055 is the range of bullet driving band engraving I’ve heard mentioned the most in old posts. Into or touching the second driving band normally. But the throat angle and land height play a role in the actual depth, probably because of the effort required to close the bolt with a...

Bouncing off the "parallel Node", Calfee

Mike, Thanks for the great explanation. And thanks for the tension meter offer but I should be able to rig something up in the future if I try a minimum neck turn chamber. Jim

Bouncing off the "parallel Node", Calfee

Mike Marcelli, I’ve always believed that thin turned necks are a desirable thing because if there is a difference in the brass, the bullet grip should see a smaller percentage of that difference. Like trying to sort rubber bands based on feel when one pile is very thick and the other pile is...
