Muzzle brakes in heavy gun class

Thanks Phil

Didnt read that into your first post. Thanks for the clarification. Really kinda what I expected though. So it appears the upside of allowing brakes is really minimal to the intent of why it is being proposed and the downside is looking more detrimental in regards to bigger and bigger cartridges coming into play.

Nice thing about Williamsport is you guys already have those staging tables in between the benches that act as some sort of buffer already. That and the cleaning area is removed from the firing line so shooters not on the line can enjoy a nice conversation w/o having to shout over the firing line.

Really enjoyed the World Open last year too. Doing everything I can to make it back this year. Great prize table you guys set out and the chicken BBQ was excellent as well.

Take care
Rob

Glad you had a good time Rob, and thanks for coming. It Hain't much of a WO without ever shooter in the world!

This whole discussion really causes more ruckus than the brakes do. By week 2 of having the rule in place, I don't think anyone in PA gave it another thought. I also don't remember any guns showing up that spurred a discussion.

We adopted the 17#s last year too, and by about week 2, that was forgotten about as well. Folks really don't give a ___ what the rules are, they just want to know what they are before they arrive. Oh, and they really do prefer them staying consistent as I'm sure you know. Changing that didn't help our attendance any either. Hopefully, long term, it will be a good thing. It certainly did put a stop to a lot of discussion, and it does make perfect sence.

Like firing procedures from PA to the IBS clubs, yea, people talk it up like 5 vs 10 or sitting till finished is some big deal, but when push comes to shove, folks shoot the prescribed # of shots and sit at the bench without loosing a smile. (The real shooters do anyhow) I think folks would have a good time shooting five 2-shot groups, if that was how we did it :) Fact is, I rather enjoyed the slight difference in rules at IBS clubs. Can you think of a shooter that talks of having more fun than when they travel to another range? Especially a new one to them. Regardless of the rules?

Blast Deflectors

We had a local club out west that didn't liked the 408 Chey-Tac and 50 bmg so a friend from Arizona sent me a 165 pound blast deflector. If somebody can post the pictures for me it would really help?

It looks like the exhaust stacks from a big rig but facing forward. We put the muzzlebrake in the center and it is adjustable for height. When you fire the gases exit into the large tubes and are carried away up and forward of the shooter.

P.S. I will see if Alinwa can post the pictures.

At my own range I use a 6 ft length of 24 in dia plastic culvet pipe in front of my bench for sound deadening and it works well for that as well as putting the muzzle blast way out in front.

The photos of the blast deflector have been posted in there own thread. The lady shooting the 50bmg prone is a small lady and recoil and dust are non-issues as is concussion for other shooters.
On the relatively small guns we use the deflectors can be cheaply made out of PVC pipe and will hold up well.
The one pictured weighs around 150 pounds.
