If I run bullets with real good meplats on them like the new Hornady 6mm hpbt I get the same readings after trimming as before trimming,If they measure 15 deviation units before trimming that is what they measure after trimming.
If I spin Clay Spencer 103's on the Juenke and find bullets with more than 5 deviation units trimming the meplats will bring them under 5 deviation units.I sort to a single deviation number.
I am running the center of the bearing surface on the 4 bearings with the stop moved so it contacts the bullets heel not the meplat.
The pickup is fixed in place under those bearings.
I put a little red line on the boattail to bearing surface junction so I can make sure the bullets are not slipping.A little laquer thinner/reducer put on the rubber with a Q-tip will make the rubber real sticky and prevent slipping.
If I then point the bullets without measuring the bearing surface or boattail to ogive most will go from under 2 deviation units to over 20.
For the nationals this year my father will be shooting 3 Dashers and all of his bullets will be under 2 deviation units.Roughly 400 bullets as he doesn't shoot the F-class bench event.
