    rookie question

Rod, When you are calculating bushing size are you figuring it using an expander or not? I would think that regardless of what bushing size you use ( within reason) the expander will push the neck out to the same dimension.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of tolerance are BR shooters looking for? I consider +-.0005" awfully good.

Load development procedure for 100m range

Try the Optimal Charge Weight method. It was designed to work best at 100 yds/meters. There is a lot to read but the method works. http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com

Redding Dies leaving ring around the bullet on 22-250

This has happened with a number of my seating dies. It should not happen with either new or fired brass. It is caused by too sharp a mouth on the seater stem. To fix it, disassemble the die, chuck the seater stem in a drill and hone the mouth of the seater with fine grit sand paper until the...

meplat trimming for short range benchrest........

OOPS, I think that I reversed what I meant. Am I correct that trimming increases drag thus lowering BC?

meplat trimming for short range benchrest........

My understanding is that trimming actually increases BC but makes it more consistent. Pointing reduces BC.

    Tuning a rifle?

Shouldn't a string of low vertical spread also demonstrate low MV spread?

    Tuning a rifle?

Do you usually find that the results of your ladder test correlate directly with the results of your Chrono. test? In other words, when you see shots grouping together vertically in your ladder test, do they usually demonstrate low velocity spread as well?

    Loss of Accuracy After Annealing

Hi Rick. Thanks for the reply. I am using a benchsourse and 700 tempilaq for the neck and 400 for the body. I had extensive conversations with the benchsource manufacturer about size of flame, distance from neck, time in heat, etc. he talked me through the process a few times. I described what...

    Loss of Accuracy After Annealing

Short range. Not benchrest. I'm a prone shooter. I never tried the annealed brass long range because the short range groups were so bad.

    Loss of Accuracy After Annealing

Sorry. I didn't word that well. I developed a load at first with once fired Laura brass that I had not annealed. After 3 firings I annealed the brass and tested that load with the newly annealed brass. With that load, the groups opened up. I'm wondering if you had a similar experience or was...

    Loss of Accuracy After Annealing

Michael, Interesting. Did you find that after annealing your groups opened up and that you had to redevelop the load of did the load stay the same?

    Loss of Accuracy After Annealing

Basically my experience as well. IF others have had this same experience, then I don't understand how people can advocate annealing after 3 firings or so. That seemed like a lot of wasted shots if the groups are openng up for 2 firings. I may try load dev. on freshly annealed brass to see if I...

I've had similar experiences with Sierra and Berger .308s. Sierra required many lots of length and bearing surface. Berger did not need to be sorted.
