    Thoughts on Memorial Day

We can never repay both the living and dead for the great gift for which that fought and so many died. Oh, how many of us have taken it so for granted. Many of us have spent most of our lives feeling that freedom was an entitlement instead of a gift. People have served and died to give us this...

McMillan benchrest record question from a history buff

I shoot at the BR range that is now at Ben Avery. The old Skunk Creek range was across the highway from what is now Ben Avery. I have spoken to a couple of shooters who were present at the match that McMillan shot the purported record group and they both confirmed that there was no backer for...

    Action screw torque setting question

It wasn't a question about repeatability. That should be noted after the torque setting produces the best groups. The question was about initial settings. By the way, Tom Meredith has probably bedded more bench rest rifles than you have ever even seen including all the rifles for Tony Boyer...

    Shilen triggers

I think all the guys using Reminton triggers miss Nelson Berger a lot. He was a magician when it came to Remington triggers.

Where and who to ask about technical bullet seating depth

To simplify your seating depth quest I would set the range for testing at .010+ and .010-. After you play with the seating depth tool mentioned above make up a dummy round based on a .05+ seating. Use some 1/0 steel wool twisted around the bullet until the shine is gone. Chamber the dummy...

    Action screw torque setting question

I have a varmint rifle (Ruger 77V tang safety) that I had rebarreled by Dwight Scott and piller bedded by Tom Meredith at TM Stockworks. The stock is the original wood that was devcon piller bedded by Tom. Ruger suggested torqueing the front angle action screw to 95 inch-pounds and the rear...

Where and who to ask about technical bullet seating depth

Off of the lands we rarely see the node beyond .06 and into the lands .05. This obviously varies slightly by bullet style and is completely not applicable to VLD bullets. Neck tension goes hand in hand with your seating depths.

What is your preferred trigger cleaning solution

Speedy indicated that he has seen resulting problems with a Jewel triggers when lighter fluid was used as the cleaning solution. At first blush I was thinking about simply using Naptha. What do you prefere?

Sorting 22lr bulk ammo for accuracy... somthing to think about

Confusion It appears there is some confusion relative to how rim thickness is measured. The photos with the dial caliper show the rim diameter being measured. Attached is a photo of my rim thickness gauge. Yes, sorting by rim thickness does make a difference in produced accuracy.

Custom Benchrest stock - Tony Boyer

OP said that he thought it could be from Tony's RF or CF rifle, that it was carbon fiber and low profile. The pic looks like what he may have been looking for. Just trying to help out.
