    A real good gunsmith lathe

I don't have a problem taking it apart to get it down stairs, but I've got a turn halfway down and the stairs end facing a wall four feet away. There is no way I'm going to get the 7 foot long, 1300+ lb bed down and around that corner. I'm going to have my hands full getting my smallish Index...

    A real good gunsmith lathe

Mark Yes, I've got a Rockwell 14x40 lathe. I also have a Rockwell Toolmaker surface grinder and belong to that group which just started up recently. The Rockwell 14x40 is a real workhorse compared to every other lathe I've used and has a nice reverse lever feature for the leadscrew. It's much...

    A real good gunsmith lathe

Mark, You might want to consider joining the Yahoo Rockwell group. There is a lot of manuals, pictures, and experience with these specific machines there. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RockwellLathe/ Greg

    A real good gunsmith lathe

I've got copies of the 11" and 14" manuals if needed. I know they are available on the Yahoo Rockwell group, but not sure if anywhere else. Maybe PM? I've got he 14" Rockwell and it is a horse with some nice features but a lot longer through the spindle. I'd like to find a nice 11" nearby...

A couple coats of paste wax. Floor, car, antique...doesn't make a big difference.

    Wolf Small Rifle Magnum primers

A lot of the LR and Palma guys are using the Russian Large Rifle primers and claiming better SD's than the others. On your K31, are you positive that the bolt was fully locked? There is very little camming power in that bolt and if your bullets are seated a bit long or cases not fully...

    Caldwell's New Joystick front rest

I hope he meant to say F-class instead of XTC. Otherwise he's cheating! ;-)

To weigh or rim gage ammo, Calfee

    And your point is?

To weigh or rim gage ammo, Calfee

How much play is in the headspace on a properly chambered BR rifle? One or two thousanths on a nominal rim thickness that you are set up for? I can't see how a rim could be canted (or lopsided) significantly enough to cause ignition problems and not be able to feel that when closing the bolt.

Berger 105 vld Thick vs standard

Berger went to a thicker jacket on some of their bullets. This was done to resist blowing up bullets due to excess velocity, fouling, and/or any number of other variables. The new jackets are tougher and just as accurate as far as I've seen and heard. Because the jacket is thicker, it will...

    Rockwell Lathe Problem

Brian, I've got a 14" Rockwell and I don't know. I've heard both. I've got 16 DP gear cutters for both PA's in case I ever need one. You might try Joe at Plaza Machinery. He's probably as familiar with them as anyone. The best thing I could tell you is to take a mating gear to the gear...

    Wisconsin Shooting

Ernie, You are very close to the Winnequah gun club outside Lodi. I am not sure what they do for Benchrest, but they run several Long Range/F-class and Highpower matches each year including the week long Midwest Palma. Lots of fun and very challenging. I think they have an indoor range now as...

JB Weld for Boss Hoss 450

My Toro did exactly the same thing two years ago, but thankfully it still had two weeks left on the warrenty. I like JB Weld just fine too.

    Remington 40-X Bore Cleaner

If "40x" is a new name for the old RemClean and they haven't changed the formula, it is great stuff. I like to wrap a patch around an undersized plastic brush and soak with the RemClean adn short stroke back and forth. I also use Kroil before and after to both get the stuff loosened up and...

    Hydraulic Indicator Holders.

The Noga holders are excellent and I believe they came up with the concept. I am really curious how well the import copies of the Noga system work. I would really like to replace the five or six clunky mechanical holders I use now, but buying real Noga's would eat my tooling budget for a...

    McLane Tilton "MT Guns"

I've had great experience with Mac. I bought my RPA2000 Palma rifle from him a couple years ago. I told him what I was looking for and he set it up with sights and extra barrels for $2000. He said that I should not send him money until I had a chance to look it over at my FFL. He has been...
