Specs for an accurate .308 reamer?

With the bullets you listed, one of the Palma reamers like the Bisley or 95 Palma should work pretty well and won't require turned necks. These two chambers have been used for years internationally and in a good rifle and barrel is capable of incredible groups way out there. There are some...

    phase converter for Bridgeport

Older motors do not have as good of insulation in the windings and on the wire as a modern motor. The change came about due to the introduction of VFD's. While the output current of your VFD might be 40Hz, the voltage is switching (PWM-pulse width modulation) at 4-16 kHz depending on the IGBT...

    phase converter for Bridgeport

You should be able to use either. Which you use is up to you. Running the motor at a constant speed and using the mechanical won't bother the VFD, but if you leave the mechanical adjustment alone and use the VFD for speed adjustment you "may" wear a groove in the pulleys after a while. Using...

Do you shoot that 20mm Lahti free recoil??? ;-)

3 jaw set tru vs 4 jaw independant...

Another vote for the set tru (3 or 6 jaw) is that the adjustment screws have a finer pitch thread. I find it easier to zero out the error with my set tru than the four jaw chucks I have.

    Milling machine advice

Some very good info here for the person looking at used equipment. http://www.mermac.com/ Don't rule out Tree and Wells-Index mills. They are less common than Bridgeports but can usually be picked up cheaper and they are typically more sturdy than a BP. Greg

    Leupold M8

One thing to ask about is if the turrets are click adjustment or friction. I've got a couple of the lower power M8 (2 1/2x, 4x, and 10x) and they are all friction knobs. I think they are good reliable scopes, but if you are relying on adjustments during a string, you are not going to get...

    Ultrasonic cleaning

There's all kinds of imported stuff out there that may or may not work, I don't know because I haven't used them. L&R and Branson are two good names. There are others as well. You should be able to go to a manufactures website to review specs. If they don't have a website, I'd be leary. You...

    ,22-250 leade?

If the throat cut with your reamer is too short, PTG also makes special throating reamers to lengthen the throat. I think they are quite a bit less expensive than a full on chamber reamer.

Hardinge HLV-H Super Precision Toolroom Lathe

Second op lathes typically don't have a leadscrew and aren't set up for threading. Many times they will have a bed mounted turret instead of a tailstock. There are of course different variations, but usually they are used for adding internal/external features to smaller workpieces in a...

    .308 Palma chamber reamer?

Ray, I have a PTG reamer that is marked M852, so I think it does exist. Mine has been reground with a tighter neck but I don't remember the dimension. Greg

    Grizzly Lathe Chucks

Hello Shiraz, My question was to gather information. At this time I don't have a Grizzly but am strongly considering one and this is an area of interest. The chucks are one area that I hadn't seen much discussion about. I don't expect the three jaw to hold much better than .003" runout for...

    Grizzly Lathe Chucks

Those of you that have the 4003G or other Grizzly lathe, what are you impressions of the three jaw and four jaw chucks that come with the lathe? Any problems with balance or excessive runout (more than .003")? Greg

    Drilling gas Port AR15

Robert, Have you seen any difference in the condtion around the port between cut and button rifled barrels? The general concensous is that cut rifled barrels typically last longer than button rifled barrels. Not always, but usually. I'm curious if the damage/erosion after the port in a groove...

    curious question

At ten feet, I'd say your chronograph will attain about 75 fps. Haven't a clue about the bullet. You might want to try a Barnes or other solid copper type bullet so it doesn't blow apart. Good luck and report back.

    Redfield base for Palma sight

Any Redfield base for a Remington 700, 721, 722, 725 will work on the 40X. It is the same reciever. There are several sources, Champions, OK Weber, Warner Machine, etc.. When you mount the base, make sure that the screws are trimmed to be flush or a little recessed on the inside lug raceway...

    Barrel length??

What I did for my last Rem 700 LR rifle in 240 NMC was to spec the Kreiger blank with an additional two inches of full diameter on the breach end going into a medium Palma contour ending at 28" when done. I would have gone 30" if used only for prone, but this was also used for XTC position...
