,22-250 leade?

Hi fellows.
I´m in the process of building a rifle on a M70 action with a Shilen 1-8 twist barrel. Plan is to shoot 69 to 80 grain bullets in ,22-250.
I have a "standard" reamer but am wondering if its really suitable for those long bullets.
Should I buy a special reamer with a longer leade?
Thanks in advance.

22-250 throat

tjensen: My standard procedure is to seat my first bullet of choice in an empty case to the depth of choice, usually with the base of the bullet close to the neck/shoulder junction, and that "dummy" round will be sent to the reamer maker (usually Pacific), including the chamber neck diameter, (usually tight, no-turn), along with chamber length, (.010" longer than max case length), and I will get a reamer cut to my dimensions. Have done numerous chamberings ( 6ppc in the shop now), with this method and they've all worked out well. I cannot see spending the big $$$$ for a custom barrel, plus the cost of installation, and not getting exactly what I want in the critical chambering dimensions. In your case, if you already have the reamer, you may be able to send it back and have it re-cut to the exact throat depth you need (shorter only), but then again, 22-250's have a reputation for "deep throats", so you may be O.K. "as-is". Can you contact the reamer maker for their advice and/or do you have a copy of the reamer drawing? My next project will be just what you are doing now: setting up an existing 22-250 with an 8 twist for the 69 to 80 gr.

If the throat cut with your reamer is too short, PTG also makes special throating reamers to lengthen the throat. I think they are quite a bit less expensive than a full on chamber reamer.
