best way to shorten action screws?

Al....... I ran across an old pic of my primer pocket uniforming process, and thought you might use it with the cordless drill app. I guess my "kink" with this process is the "rag wrapped" 270 case. It puts the pressure in the palm.......rather than cramping my fingers. Hope this might help...

best way to shorten action screws?

That was...... .....dang close Al!! But......the tip of the lube bottle is a bit wet.....so I can swipe a bit off with the turning mandrel, before each case turning. The tin cap has some naphtha that I dip the folded pipe-cleaner into.......for inside cleaning of the rotating neck, after...

best way to shorten action screws?

Al....... That was fast!! Glad it worked for ya. Extra hints: For a "close" screwhead fit, inside the chuck, I use a small disc of duct tape over the screwhead while slowly tightening the chuck. Sometimes I have to reverse the screw, or use a larger/different brand chuck. As you probably...

best way to shorten action screws?

Al....... I clamp my cordless drill flat on my workbench. Carefully place the screwhead inside the chuck, with some crocus cloth around the threads. Spin the screw while using a dremel(held flat on the workbench) cut-off wheel to slice off the unwanted threads........SAFETY GLASSES ALWAYS!!! A...

    40 x actions

Hey Butch......... Back to the 40X actions...... Wasn't there an old article, in Precision Shooting, comparing the 40X(b) and 40XBR/ 40XB-BR actions? I recall something about heat treating, and acid etching vs. stamping the action side. You remember? Thanks, Kevin

Sad News, Dale Metzger Passed Away This Morning

Dale and I first met....... ......on the small caliber board about 10 years ago. We road tripped to the Texas high plains, that summer, for a weekend of PD shooting. Although the weather cut the trip a bit short......Dale throughly enjoyed himself, and was great company for the time spent...

    Houston Warehouse

Interesting....... .......in that I try to prove, at least to myself, that a given neck turning set-up is actually turning "to within a tenth". Some years ago I put together the system below. Yes.....I do check every case. BTW.......thanks to "Mr. Innocent". Kevin

    neck turning cases

Interesting replies gents....... My concern was that, in the past, when I axially "fixed" the rotating case head........while turning the neck...........any case wobble would transfer to the neck area. The end result would be wildly varying neck thickness T.I.R.'s........depending on how much...

    neck turning cases

Case head area...... You fellas with the lathe set-up........ Do you allow the case head to "float", while turning the neck? Thanks, Kevin

    neck turning cases

Kelly........ The caseholder is made from parts used on a Forster Case Trimmer. The collet holder is lathe made, to attach to the gearmotor output shaft. The set-up is also good for some case prep. See pic below. Sure beats my old cordless drill set-up. Kevin My old cordless drill set-up.

    Primer Diagnosis Help Needed

On two of those primers........are those two pin-hole primer failures, at the corners, I'm seeing?? Years ago, I had that happen on a 40XBR 17 Javelina PD rifle. They were moderate loads, with Fed 205M primers. I "removed" that lot of primers from service..........i.e. I had to unload and...

    Resolution of chronographs?

Oehler 35P If I recall correctly, the 35P's timing is run via a 4.0MHZ crystal oscillator......for BOTH screen spacings. I remember making my conduit 9 feet long........max length to fit my old '97 Grand Cherokee. :o BTW......isn't the LabRadar's max speed limit 3900fps? Kevin

    case sorting question

Sorting by neckwall thickness runout...... .....has shown some interesting information, over the years. Weights have gotten pretty consistent. The numbers are tenths T.I.R. Kevin

    neck truning of cases

This has worked very well for me. Runout is checked for every case neck.......to KNOW that set-up is turning to within 0.0001" T.I.R. Many thanks to "Innocent" Francis, for his help years ago. Kevin
