    Horizontal Mill?

I have an opportunity to get a nice old Sheldon horizontal mill with a (very nice) home-made vertical attachment. It is super clean and comes with a bunch of tooling, but I can't quite figure out what I'd use it for in a hobby gunsmithing and knifemaking shop. It is 3 phase so I would have to...

    Terry Leonard

Trying to reach... I have one of his stocks packed up and ready to ship in for repair, but I can't get in touch with him. I've been calling for a week, emailed several times but no response. I understand he must be busy, but I don't want to ship my stock and action till I know he is still at...

    More Good News From California...

I think what we are really seeing is an out for the insurance companies to NOT cover firearms under standard homeowners and personal liability policies and force gun owners to pay EXTRA for what's already included in policies now. By the way, what happens in California tends to spread to other...

    Sinclair Competition Rest Carrier?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I found an old camera case I had in storage that works great.

    Sinclair Competition Rest Carrier?

I have splurged a little bit and gotten one of the Sinclair Competition front rests. I was wondering if anybody else who has one might give me suggestions on a case or bag to carry it around in and keep it clean when in storage. It's a little big for my usual "toolbag from the hardware store"...

    Marlin 39A .22RF

ML McPherson, in his book "Accurizing the Factory Rifle", has information and suggestions about improving Marlins. From what I have read, the RTV silicone bedding trick is what he would endorse. You could also contact someone like Treebone carving and get a new, premium stock set. This would...

Salt Bath Nitride Coating of Barrels?

I have a couple of black powder competition guns with stainless barrels I wanted to blue. One's a Krieger on a Cody Ballard and the other is a Ron Pense on a renovated Borchardt target rifle I've been working on. I recently have seen a write up on the nitriding process, which, among its other...

    trigger options

I have a Shilen competition model that's several years old in one of my Remington 700s and like it quite well. Initially, I felt like it was too light to be considered really reliable with the stock bolt and cocking piece. It used to follow through unless the bolt was handled very gently...

    Considering Cone Bolt?

Thanks. I will most likely go with the coned bolt, then.

    Considering Cone Bolt?

I am preparing to re-barrel my Rem 700 VSSF from .220 Swift to a .20 cal based on the .220 Russian case. I will be ordering a new bolt from PT&G and was considering one of his cone modifications. Is there a down side, other than the modest price increase over a more standard configuration...

How to calculate machining angle 20 MOA taper

The one I bought is marked Wixey. I bought it from a Woodcraft. They sell them for setting saw angles, which I imagine they are quite useful for. I have also seem them in some metalworking sites as well, although under a different brand.

How to calculate machining angle 20 MOA taper

These new digital angle finders are really useful for setting angles like this, once you have determined the degree setting you want to use. I have one I got for about $40 that's accurate to 1/10 degree. I had to match a very tapered section of barrel to a scope mount I was making out of...

    Borescope Q?

Just curious about which flexible borescope you are using. Any info or links? What is the smallest bore you can inspect with it?

    HS Precision Stock ReModel?

H&S Replied to my Email They said to grind off as much as I wanted to, then send it in and they would re-glass and paint for like $200. I expect I'll still do it myself, but I thought it was nice for them to respond and offer to do some customization.

    HS Precision Stock ReModel?

Thanks a lot. That's kind of what I was thinking. I emailed H&S but never heard back from them. Probably too busy to deal with harebrained schemes like mine.

    HS Precision Stock ReModel?

Anybody ever recontour a H&S Precision stock? I have one, the silhouette model, with a comb that's too tall to get a rod through the barrel and wanted to reduce it some. What would one use to reseal the foam once the skin has been ground off? I was thinking about some kind of epoxy or JB...

    Taking The Shine Off Stainless.

I guess that depends on what you consider desirable. Personally, I love the Scotchbrite finishes since they are so easily touched up. Bead blast is so delicate and the only way to restore it is to blast again. Hard to do if you don't have a blaster.
