    More sad news

Condolences, George - Ed worked with me on a couple of 'tweaks' to the toggle-blocks on the B&A clones - he was knowledgeable, generous, and kind. Once again, we are diminished. Best Regards, RG

A Bag Gun with barrel clamp

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yep, I still have a CPS Aluminum stock which may get resurrected some day . . . ;) on mine, I simply used a bedding block (riser) to accommodate recoil lug(s) . . . and added a little wood here & there. RG

    Who made this barrel?

Just a wild guess Cannot think of who WG may have been: it's probably a 1:11"twist (1/11) - easy enough to determine; .2989" bore diameter; .3076" groove Dia. RG

Bullet diameter - How big is too big? 30 BR

"And here, you have it" - Wayne is correct. :D Adding to Wayne's statement, with proper loaded-round/chamber clearance & judicious load development, bullets, up to, at least, .310" diameter work pretty well . . . don't ask me how I know . . .:p Of course, with longer bullets, requiring some...

Saddening to learn this.:( RIP Bob . . . will recall your positive influence when shootin' the "sporter". RG

Another good man has left the range

"Mini Nationals" GURU, indeed!:D Let's hope that, "the range is open" for Dick Baier - he led the Wisconsinites out of the wilderness into the realm of precision shooting. Best regards, and prayers for Dick's family and close friends. RG

And, " the correct answer is . . . " . . . and, there you have it. Thank you, Al. :D RG

    Bullet swaging questions.

I agree with Lee (post # 38) - that is, way too much lube. Reducing lube may help the die-walls, "hold onto the bullet", while the point-up punch releases [from], or, is pulled off the BT. Also, sometimes, the BT point-up punch will respond to lightly polishing the BT punch cavity. I use optical...

    An interesting Savage 99 project

The Clarence Detsch die 88Gr. FB are showing promise. Al, your "pillaring" of the Sav 99CD has eliminated the wild first shot flier - prior to your effort, the initial shot from either clod/clean, or, cold/"fouled" barrel always went WAY high and most often right . . . sometimes to the tune of...

Doug, :p:cool: That period scope - even at a WHOPPING 6X - sealed the deal!:);)RG

    An interesting Savage 99 project

Martin, good points - especially the twist rate! I believe that mine is a 1975/76 production, and that the detachable magazine was introduced about that time, possibly about 1968. Your post below was most excellent - where marginal stability is concerned, shortening the OAL, by only 1/16", CAN...

    6BR, 1:10’’ twist, 107 gr. Bullets at 100 yards ?

The 107 MK - even the old style - may prove a little too long from the 1:10" twist. Try them and see: at best, stability will be marginal . . . and possibly poor. It is probable that the ideal twist would be about 1:8" - a 6mm BT, in excess of 1.20" OAL will want faster yet. That said, marginal...

    Hello, Boyd Allen!

The [level-full] numbers I stated during our conversation were incorrect here are the correct weights: H-4198 35.0Gr. - the other stuff 43.2Gr. !! With the "other stuff", one could probably "make a mess" . . . I think you are eyeing a potentially good/better avenue. :) RG

Boyd, re-read my post and show me where I contradicted anyone! I merely expressed my DOUBT. Don't presume that my faceceous tag-line expresses any contradictory nature - I am a very successful proponent to doing stuff, "that'll never work", and of encouraging other to do the same . . . ;) RG
