    Neck turning difficulty

10ring I had the same problem. I simply ran the expander mandrel back and forth a few times to correct. I also lube the mandrel with sizing lube on a tooth brush. Nothing fancy. Jim

It would be nice to have a lathe ! I don't. Jim

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

Jamming the bullets into the lands is what I want to avoid. That is the purpose of using a seating system, that is more consistent with seating depth. I use a bullet Comparator to measure seating depth. Factory seat stems, show more variation, in seating depth, than I like. A bushing...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

John certainly doing nothing has it's merits. The bullets I seated with the bushing die, showed no damage to the bullet, and no runout by my viewing. This method has satisfied my long search for a tool that contacts the bullet near the widest point. With this, I can seat a variety of bullets...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

WOW !! I just returned from the cave. Full length sized 5 LC 13 .223 unprimed, once fired brass. Pulled out a 204 Neck die. removed the guts. This worked great. No marks were left on the bullets, during the seating process. I turned the seated bullet, so I could see where the bullet...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

Yes run out would be a concern. The thing about using the Bushing die ? The expense is nill, compared to buying custom made stems. The bushings would have a large contact area, so i doubt there shouldn't be any distortion. Uniformity of seating depth should be the same, even with different...

Using a bushing die as a seating die ?

Has anyone used a Bushing die to seat bullets ? For years I've searched for a seating stem, that contacted the bullet close to it's widest point. Not any luck, in finding a stem to go that far down the Ogive. Different bullets have different Ogive shapes. A proper bushing size could solve...

Need help forming some wildcat cases

I totally agree that forming 17 Fireball, or 17MIV, is a pain, but during the winter, I always do a few. I start with a deprimed once fired military 5.56, or a 223. Swag the primer pocket. Ultrasonic clean, lube, and size with a 221 TRIM die. For my 17FB, I ground down a shellholder, just...

    Marlin X7VH

Glad to hear your Marlin is shootin. My rifle came with Weaver mounts, and I've got Burris Signature rings waiting. The 26in barrel with a 1/9 twist worries me. I'm afraid by the time the bullet gets to the end, it will be stripped. I'll run a few rounds through my action to check the...

    Marlin X7VH

Looking it over I found mine to be free of rust like others had stated in their findings. May have been supplier storage problem. I'm curious about the donor possibilities. Especially for a 20 Vartag. For now I'll wait on a scope and some range time. Thanks Jim

Thanks for the links Bill, but no info regarding barrel threading. Maybe a gunsmith that has had one apart may help. Jim

    17 Fireball Powder

I don't know what powder that Remington uses. as I've been told that often they keep it a secret. But I can recommend Ramshots Xterminator powder. It has reduced my group size considerably. Jim

Wanting to build a 17 Fireball

I'm leaning that way also ! The CZs are drying up around here. Too bad the 17 FB didn't take off ! A Factory CZ in 17 FB would've fit the ticket nicely ! Thanks ! Jim

Wanting to build a 17 Fireball

Sounds like a lot of expense to convert a 223 action to feed and work a 221 case. Thanks guys for the help ! Jim

Wanting to build a 17 Fireball

Thanks Mike. The PT &G bolt looks like it would work, but I wonder if feeding from the magazine would still be a problem ? I notice the feed rails on the Fireball action are different than that on a 223 action. Jim
