Who did this Leupold mod?

Premier I believe.

Check old Precision Shooting magazines.

Does Premier still exist? The one thing I heard about these scopes that impressed me was that Premier can modify the scope and still carry the lifetime warranty from Leupold.

Smitty,

Premier exists but no longer has an affiliation with leupold. Premier used to be leupolds american service center but they had a split around two years ago.

That 36 X was made in 1985 .

Every Leupold scope produced since 1974 will have a letter included in the serial number acting as a date-code. Scopes using a letter as a prefix (the beginning of the serial number) were produced between 1974 and 1992. Scopes using a letter as a suffix (the end of the serial number) have been produced after 1992. On the chart below, you will notice the letters “I,” “O,” and “Q” have been omitted as they are easily mistaken for “1,” “0,” and “0” respectively.

Prefix Suffix
E = 1974 A = 1993
F = 1975 B = 1994
G = 1976 C = 1995
H = 1977 D = 1996
J = 1978 E = 1997

Stonewall, thank you for posting this chart/info. Correct me if I'm wrong: The scopes w/suffix letters A to D were the
1" BR models w/locking rings on objective bell. What year did Comp series come on the market?

In 1956,I bought a Win 43 .218 Bee that had a Weaver J4 on it,with a 2 minute dot reticul in it that was done by Bob Thomas.At that time he was in West Virginia.
I still have the gun and scope - a great fall turkey gun!

I had a scope just like the one on eBay. It was done by Dick Thomas, but don't remember the time frame. When he passed away a few years ago, Premier Reticles changed their direction and what they would do probably because Dick was the one doing that kind of work. I ordered my first Leupold Competition scope from Dick with a 1/16 moa dot installed by Premier.
