Hi all, do you guys know which barrel twist you normally would need to stabilise a subsonic 40/50 grain lead .22 bullet ? Barrel length woul be 25 inch. looking for max accuracy at out to 100 yards.
Thanks :drinks:

I'm assuming you are talking about a rimfire, from your statement about it being a lead bullet. For a 40 grainer I don;t know why it would be any different from a std. vel. round which would require a 16 inch twist. The Aquilla ammo, the sniper subsonic uses a 60 grain bullet and it takes a much faster twist.....around a 10 inch if memory serves me. You can go to, I think, Soundtechsilencer.com and get some good info on it. You might have to do a generic search for that website to get the correct addy. At any rate, the gentleman that has that business build rifles especially for the sixty grain subsonics.

JDJones told me he prefers to use the fastest twists available for subsonics- going against thinking i.e. a 40 grain .223 would be a 14 or 12 twist, he suggested going to a 9 or a 7

just the .02 I got from someone else, and he seems to know his beans.

The meguir Sniper SubSonic .22 LR ammo has a 60 grain bullet and is quite long. They do not stabilize well in a 1-16 or slower barrel. This is great cat ammo. I would think a 1-10 would be good. I just make close shots and live with the reduced accuracy.
