Upgrade to Hawkeye bore scope

1 watt Nite Ize

I picked up 3 of the newest version of the Mini Mag Nite Ize replacement bulbs this afternoon of off Ebay. These supposedly just came outfrom Nite Ize and are brighter(1 watt) than the original Nite Ize replacement. I wanted one for my Hawkeye and a couple for my Mini Mag Lites. They were $9.33 each and $ 5 for the shipping.
We'll see(no pun intended)

I'm Po Mickey

I thought about the same shipping charges and it galls me a little but then I thought of if in this light: Driving at least 5 miles one way (if I wait until Monday), walking all over Wal-Mart, waiting in a long line to check out, listening to a couple of 'night fighters' jabber while they're trying to check people out, getting royally pissed and it ruining my day. I can miss all of that and just have UPS bring it to my front porch for only $11! A bargain any day of the week.

Howzzat for another perspective? ;)

I have to watch my dollars. Beyond that, I just hate being screwed blue by people who charge exorbatantly for shipping. I won't give them the chance to tattoo me. It's a principle thing mostly.

The other side of that is a mixed drink now costs from $7 to $9 around the area here so it's all a matter of perspective I guess but there's something wrong with the freight costing double what the item purchased costs.

I think we also have to remember they need to stay in business. On such a small purchase, the handling and packing/labels/account etc. etc. all cost time and consequently money. If they charged exact shipping, I suspect they wouldn't be in business too long..

LOWES to the rescue

I went to Lowes @ lunch time and they had several choices there. I took the $7.95 set. Checked myself out so there was no handeling charge. :)

Hawkeye De-Light

:D I do my grocery shopping at the local WalMart so I picked up the LED upgrade for under $5.00. It really seems a lot brighter, but I haven't used it
on my Haweye yet. I know it's going to help these tired old eyes, and I am
pleased to have found out about this on BR Central Forums. :)

Ain't just the freight, Pete. It's the box and packaging. That costs labor to do it. When I get ready to ship a rifle out it takes me at least 20 minutes to wrap it in cushion wrap (that I had to order) box it up (in a box that I had to order) tape it up with strapping tape (that I had to order) and if it's a tad heavy I also strap it with nylon strapping (once again). Then I have to drive 8 miles to the post office where the shipping and insurance runs $15-$35 depending on the package. I usually figure ~$30 overall.

I realize the big companies have UPS pick everything up but they still have their employees to pay plus associated costs. All in all I don't think we're getting soaked too bad on shipping costs. I ain't rich by any means but I hate to leave the shop and go to town to ship a package but it's a necessary 'evil' because I know the customer wants his rifle as soon as I can get it to him.

I have plenty of little things that bother me so don't think I'm holding myself up as a paragon of patience.

When I ordered mine I ordered two of them. One for my little mag light and one for the Hawkeye so my shipping costs per item are cut in half.......I hope. That reminds me of the man who would drive 30 miles to the next county because the beer joints over there sold beer for a nickle a can less than the local beer joint. A friend reminded him that gas at that time was $1/gallon and it took him at least 3 gallons to get there and back so just how did he figure he was coming out by doing all that to save a nickle a can. He just smiled and said, "It's simple. I just sit there and drink until I show a profit!" I think I figure a lot of my shop expenses the same way. ;)

Mickey,
You are so right. After buying boxes, bubble wrap, and tape, I have to drive 25 miles to get to UPS or the post office. Even at 18MPG, diesel is expensive at $3.60 per gallon.

What ever happened to "Freight Free"?

It being Friday and all and me wanting to get out of the office @ lunch time and my needin to go to the bank for change and Lowes being just up the hill from the bank, I went .

Stopped @ Burger King and got one of them Cheese Whoppers with Bacon! UMMMM! and a small Chocolate shake. Ambled on up the hill about a mile to the new Lowes store and dined in the parking lot. Went in to the store and EVERYONE greeted me with a smile and chit chat; (Walmart could learn something here).

Found the MagLite display right there by the check-0ut. I studdied them carefully. I opted for a "Kit" with switch. Went back to work.

Couldn't wait for Quittin Time to come. Got home and went @ the Hawkeye mag lite. Started taking it apart; the directions , mostly in Spanish, weren't very specific or much help.

Finally got it apart but had some small bits that I didn't know where they came from. Started trying to imagine how the new bulb and reflector could fit in to the light. After a good 45 minutes and a lot of switching things around, I got it together.

Glad I bought the kit with the switch. It is nice add on the borescope.

Man Pervailed once again ! I like it.

The switch in the kit

is a push on push off, is recessed and neatly done. It seems more positive to me than the turning the front thing but it's just a preference I guess.

Got one yesterday

I found one at the local Target store yesterday for $9.99. Installed it last night (without the switch that comes with the package) and it seems to work fine.

Finally got my accessories... will see how they work... Switch even looks decent in the package.... lets see fibre optic attachment, bulb switch kit, c/d size battery-flashlight bulb....lots of goodies.....
