I went to the jump trying to find what Berger says is a good starting place, but I have always gotten better groups touching with less powder. I got up to 31.5 grains to increase the velocity for shooting at 1,000 yds. I think that my groups increased in size because I was using to much powder for "MY" rifle. The best group it has ever shot at 100 yds was a .084" for 5 shots. What I should have done was to keep some where around 29 + or - grains and worked on increasing the jam. This is what I am going to do now. I have 50 empty cases that were just trimmed. I have another 50 that have 31.5 grs. which I will break down and trim then start again.
If I can get it shooting consistently under 1/2" at 200 yds. again I think I can get my groups under 6 inches at 1,000. I have only shot twice at 1,000 and it is very addictive. Can't wait for them to clear about 75 yds. of trees so we can extend the 1,000 to 1,760. I guess when that happens I hope all I'll need is a new barrel and another set of dies and bullets & bigger cases. I have the powder and primers.
Oh, I'll have to take some pictures of the shooting benches we have and post them here. The tops are made of 6" or thicker slabs of polished granite. In fact almost everything out there is made out of granite or marble.
