"Three Rings of Steel" Question/Discussion

Very impressive, truely didn't expect a standard bolt to seal.

The steel actually doesn't seal... the 3 rings simply support the brass so well the brass does not rupture. Everything may expand a bit and lock up but the brass has no where to go...

The custom actions that have sliding extractors and a ring around MOST of the case rim can present other problems. If the barrel chamfer is closely matched to the chamfer (cone) on the front of the bolt and clearance is held to a few thou, you have a pretty good seal. I've seen one that suffered a case rupture and the minimum clearance contained the pressure too well. A section of the ring surrounding the case rim came out the left port and left a nice, long (22 stitches) slice in the shooters right cheek.

Gentleman a left port it was.

Gentleman, in your technical mind would you believe that with any open raceway bolt action one can be hit with the extractor or rim regardless of which side the port is.

Gentleman, would you believe that if there is a straight line there is always the possibility.

Gentleman, can you possibly believe that a simple ruler will show you exactly where the direct line to your head is.
