Tested my new custom turret from Vortex.

This past Tuesday I received my custom turret from Vortex. It is calibrated in yards so when I range with my laser range finder all I have to do is turn the turret to the yardage and shoot.

It is mounted on my new Votrex Viper 6-24x50mm PST FFP MOA scope.

First I had to get it sighted in at 200 yds. which is my zero.

The elevation was approximately 800 feet, humidity about 60% and the temperature was 85 degrees. Wind was nil.

I then zeroed my turrets. the elevation was set at 2 for 200 yds. the windage was set at zero. When this was completed we moved back to the 400 yd position.

I set up to shoot and turned the elevation turret to 4 for 400 yds. which was calibrated from my drop chart by who ever does it for Vortex. With the windage turret left at zero this is the 3 shot group I got AT 400 YARDS with the scope set at 24 power. The rifle is a 6mm Norma BR. shooting Berger 105 gr. VLDs & Varget. The barrel is a 26" Brux 1 in 8" twist.

You look at the target. Is there anything more I need to say about the scope, custom turret or my rifle?

I don't know, it looks awful............................

liddle. As the photo was loading, I looked at the hole up around the 1, I said, "Dang, he's REALLY got that thing shootin'". Then, I saw the other two.......ho hum.

HEY I couldn't give you all 'em compliments like those guys on that OTHER site, they just GIVE 'em away....here, you gotta WORK for compliments!!! (After all, you got the scope, what more do you want??) ;):D:D

It looks like you got it on, I'll bet all the way home you were singing the theme for that avatar.
Just think, the next time you go out, you'll really, REALLY have a good time. Congrats.

Thanks Brian,

I was so happy I changed my name on another site to "tickled pink". ;)

I feel the "custom turret" offerings out there are great. A alternative is to buy (or make) blank turrets and mark them to exact bulls-eye to desired distances. Ballistic software generated turrets are not always spot on exact (especially at greater distances). Tape is a cheap and easy alternative as well.

Hate to break anyone's bubble, but you will find that your "exact zeroes" at a yardage changes from day to day, depending on temp, humidity, wind direction and sunlight vs clouds, even on the same range on the same day! Usually only 1/2 to 1 moa, but that is enough to cause a dropped point. That is why we have sighters...

I agree with this Keith. My shooting was for hunting purposes and the custom turret was accurate enough for me and the other guys shooting my rifle to hit the gongs out to 1,200 yards that time and day if "THEY" doped the wind correctly. It was the first time I had ever shot past 400 yds. with a scope and really amazed me that it was even possible especially for me.
