Suggestions For Dies

Just bought a nice, competitive 6PPC rig. What would be your suggestions for dies? The really nice guy that I bought it from is sending me some cases fired in the barrels, some of the bullets he makes, and a dummy round.

Ditto on

I would contact Lynwood Harrell and do as he says to do. He will tell you to send him three fired cases. From those he will make a FL sizing die. Also buy a Redding small base sizing die or get Lynwood to send you a base sizing die with the insert for your chamber. For a seating die it's pretty tough to beat the L.E. Wilson stainless steel micro-adjustable top seating die. Jim Carstenson also makes a real nice adjustable top seater.

the Harrells dies. Just be sure you ask Lynwood to make it samll base. And the Wilson seaters are the best

What was the prior owner using ??

On a side note, I have made it a habit to include the brass, sizing die and seater die when I sell a BR rifle.

I don't know off the top of my head what dies he is using. I'll ask.

The other option that I had thought about was Jim Carstenson sizer conversion. Thoughts?

sizing die

I have a Carstenson FL sizing die and really like it. As has been said, send him three pieces of brass that have been fired at least three time and he will send you back what I would call a true custom die. Turn around time is very good too. As far as the seating die is concerned, listen to the other posters and go with the Wilson micro top seater die. They are very nice.
One thing to think about is your current and future chamber dimentions. All the work getting a nice custom die will be for not if the next barrel that you put on your gun is from a different reamer. Many buy their own reamer so that all future chambers will match your custom die. Hope this helps. Bro.D

Thank you for the info.

The fellow that I'm buying the gun from is a well-known riflesmith and bullet maker. Y'all know him. I'm just not going to mention names without explicity say-so.

I'm sure he's still got the reamer. I'd thought to just go back to him for new barrels.

Might be worth it to get the all the info and get a twin to it made.
