Our 78th annual Sniper King / Sam Wilson Memorial match is in the books. Tacoma's Sniper King event, the oldest continuously awarded trophy in Benchrest, was held on the July 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Awarded annually since 1944, the winner receives the trophy based on the smallest 10 shot group shot at 200 yards. Shooters had 15 opportunities to shoot that one small group. There is a pretty impressive list of benchrest shooters on that one trophy.
Our course of fire was 100 yd/200yd 10 shot groups on Saturday, with Sunday being all 200 yd 10 shot groups. Monday was 200yd/100yd 5 shot groups.
Mark Walker beat them all this year with his .257" 10 shot group. He also had a couple other amazingly small groups.
Congratulations to Larry Boers for winning the Agg King trophy this year with a .2058" 10 shot agg @ 200.
The Sam Wilson Trophy was won by Gary Ocock , shooting an incredible 2 gun agg of .1802".
Gary Ocock won the 10 shot unlimited grand agg with a .2035".
Larry Boers won the Double 200 10 shot unlimited grand agg with a .2144".
Mark Walker shot an incredible 100 yard 5 shot agg of .1310" Sunday afternoon.
Gary Ocock won the 200 yd 5 shot agg with an amazing .1291" agg
Mark Walker won the 5 shot unlimited grand agg on Sunday with a 1476".
Small group award winners this weekend were:
Steve Kostanich, Paul Weaver, Larry Boers, Ken Parsons, Matt Spradlin, Bryan Zolnikov, Jeff Crose, Eric Stanton, Doug Schwind ,and Mark Walker.
We had a great potluck dinner on Sunday night. We had a beautiful moment to reflect on our departed friend Jeff Yost. Jeff was a great part of our benchrest family, and is surely missed. The Yost estate provided steak, salmon and wine for our dinner. A huge thank you to Mustafa and Rosemary Bilal and all who contributed.
And lastly, I`d like to bring your attention to the outstanding crew we have behind the scenes: Geoff Hallett, Tyler Crocker and Craig Kensler all played huge roles in our successful match.
Our next match will be August 6th and 7th, the Sporter and Light NW Regional. We hope to see you there.
