I just finished up an the machine work on a 700 action that I set on an 8 bolt jig and dialed it with a .5 drill rod and snug fitting bushings. I had to cut .003 off the face and .003 off the internal locking lug. The top of the threads had to be cut .010 to clean up. I then chased the threads and had to take .020 to get a full cut on both sides of the threads....This seemed like quite a bit to me, and I was wondering how much you guys usually have to cut on the threads to get them to clean up. I tested the bolt contact and im getting 75% on one lug and 50% on the other before truing the bolt lugs
