I've been down in the shop this morning and I unboxed a Berry's Mfg VersaCradle I bought from Brownell's.....

Ya know how once in a great while a product IS exactly what it says it is?

Well this one IS...... nice and heavy, stiff and firm, this is a great product.

Good On Ya' Berry's Mfg.

Testing barrels for a few hours..... swapping actions and scopes..... this thing's good enough to swap scopes.

happy happy happy

alinwa,

How did you mount yours?

Bolted down or clamped down to a bench?

thanks

Bolted, with wingnuts and a couple extra stabilizer bolts with washers. Bolted down I _could_ checker walnut in it, it's that solid....... but easy to move because to change scopes I dismount it and carry it over to my shooting window where I can swap out on a 100yd target.

Note that my bases/rings are all aligned and lapped or bedded so that my scopes are never bound.

You convinced me. Ordered one today from Brownells

This thread made me buy one, too! Far more stable than the Tipton plastic vice thingy and far less bulky.

Mine didn't have the two washers that go on the outside with the two large knobs for the cradles. I called Berry to ask if they were supposed to be in the kit (they were) and they asked if I had the new version. What new version I ask? The latest iteration has knobs to connect everything giving the ability to quickly change between all their options like machine vice, shooting arm, c clamps, stand, etc. It's also got a knob holding it to the table top base, too, so you can quickly unbolt it from the bench and use the portable base. It doesn't look like anyone's carrying the brand new one yet.

They don't seem to have any pictures of it out there yet. I'm attaching a screenshot of a pdf they sent.

The one I just got doesn't have the washers either. The washers are shown in a gold color on the parts diagram, so I wonder if they are copper or brass. Have to ask them about that. First rifle I tried in it is a CZ 452 full stock. I had to remove the spacer between the stock arms in order to have the stock in the padded area. I also noticed that there are shallow slots milled into both sides of all the arms above the bolt holes. The slots don't seem to mate up with anything so I'm wondering what they're there for. I think the four screw mount for the beam might be more secure than a single bolt and and knob setup, especially if you're not going to be removing the beam frequently.
