stool sample
I have had 4 shooting stools over the years, all of them drummer's thrones drafted for service. Three lasted a couple of years or less. None of my stools were hydraulic or really fancy in any way--except for the last (present) one. This current one is a Pork Pie brand stool. It was on special at Musician's Friend or Music 123-- one of those two where I regularly buy things for the kids. The Pork Pie is a metallic gold vinyl with a leopard skin (obviously fake) seat top. I also bought a Gibraltar black back rest for it.
I bought this thing in 1995 or 6 after having had my back and hips blown out. I thought it would be nice to have something really cushy and my son the drummer had one that I like--except his is purple and--well don't ask. The first day I used this seat at the range I forgot it there and was chagrined to think I had just thrown away about $150. Luckily (maybe) one of the other people on the firing line that day retrieved the stool and called me. He really ragged me about the leopard skin gold metal flake sissy seat I had left and wanted to know if I had decided to come to my senses and abandoned the "thing."
Since then I have been harassed and kidded about that stool by everyone I know that shoots rifles on that range. Living on a disability pension as I do, I could not afford to just throw it away and get another one, besides, it is nice and cushy and adjusts high enough so that I can keep my legs at 90 degrees or more at the bench, which is a great help. I figured it would be gone in a couple of years and I would hopefully be able to get something like it, but not so gaudy.
I shoot at least twice a week using that stool. I also use it every day to play Frisbee (twice) with my fetch obsessed dogs and/or sit and watch the world go by. I am not a small person. I weigh in excess of 200 pounds. The !@#$$ stool is still here....................................
