Scope gone bad

What would you do first, if you suspect a high end scope going bad? Two different times I have shot this scope and the group is awful, change to a B&L same load same wind and bingo right back to square one.
Screws were tight, same hold, same everything. ShouldI say it MARCH 40x

I have several other 30mm rings that I thought I might try before I give up.

If you switched scopes and the problem was solved, I would send the scope back to the manufacturer for warranty work.
 
Definitely send it to Deon in Japan and you will get a report with pictures of your disassembled scope and their conclusions they do a good job. I've witnessed a similar case like yours and in the end it was not the scope's fault but it is good to know it.
 
Try this first

Try running the adjustment turrets from one stop to the other, and bring it back to the spot you started at. Do this on windage & elevation. Then shoot it and see if it still does the same thing. Sometime this action will correct the problem.
 
I have a March that took a ! I sent it back and it was repaired.. No pictures though, guess they forgot that part when fixing mine..:D

Depends on where you live and how much you want to insure it for. If its a March scope, going back to Deon Optical Design Corp,it cost $63.00 plus insurance to ship from Dallas,Tx to Japan.

I changed the rings and ran the turrets up and down, back and forth then in seems to group a lot better than before. Thanks don't know what happened to it.

at the price of your scope BETTER is not good enough !
 
Where's the Blame.

Scopes often get blamed for poor groups or scores. Bedding can cause a lot of similar problems. A scope that is not optically centered, can also cause these type of problems. Ammo is another possibility. Put the scope on another great shooting rifle and see what happens.
 
At the price you pay for a March, you shouldn't have to send it back for anything, ever.
 
March 40X

From what you describe definitely send your scope to Deon and ask for a report with photos,
you will be fixed about it.
 
On the subject of "exercising the turrets", running them to their limits several times ( carefully) and then back to center, a fellow was having a scope problem at a Visalia benchrest match, and I asked him if he had tried exercising his turrets. He asked what I meant. I explained, and he tried it, with the result that later in the day, or weekend (I forget.) he won a yardage with that same scope. The scope was a Weaver T model 36X. I have no idea if this would work for your scope, but given the cost, I might give it a try before shipping it to Japan.
