Ceefuhs....I shoot Anschutz style front and rear sights. I use an adjustable rear iris and a adjustable front aperture sight. I like the adjust ables so when you shoot under poor like conditions, you can adjust them so you pull in more light to see better. We shoot at a 100 yard NRA 22 rifle target. While shooting at this target, at 100 yards, you want to be able to see a little white around the outer edge of the black on the target. To do this you need to adjust the front aperture. I pref ere the hole of the rear Iris to be as small as possible. Just so I can see the target as clear as possible. If you use front inserts, find one that just leaves a little white around the outside of the target and center the target in the middle of your target. If you don,t want to spend too much, you can buy a Mert # 3 Master disk adjustable rear that works good for the money. If you use the non-adjustable they have different sizes. I prefer the 0.8 to 2.2 rear disk opening and about 2.5 size front aperture for the front. The size you use may depend on the distance you shoot and the amount of light you have during the day. If you shoot closer you will have to put in a larger front apeture if you want to be able to see a little white around the outer edge of your target or go to a smaller sized target like the NRA 25 yard pistol target. Some times the size apertures people use is a personal preference. Depending how much white they want around the outer edge. It will take some practice, but once you get used to it ,you will be surprised how well you can put them in the center. Hope this helps. DJB in Wi
