Rifle Balance

Its been said here and elsewhere that a Benchrest rifle should balance at
the front of the action. Does this play out as good or should it be a bit
forward or back from that. Can you have to much weight in the butstock.

I think a lot of guns end up too nose heavy. I would sacrifice some barrel to get weight in the butt.

What little i know about this subject is yes a rifle would be better off balanced somewhere close to the front of the action. However if you shoot like i shoot " I pin the rifle against the front rest" rifle balance may become a little less important. By no means would i want an extremely nose heavy rifle even though i shoot my rifles by pinning them, but i dont have to be as concerned with balance as one might be that shoots free recoil. In my opinion you have to have a perfect set up to shoot free recoil and i would just about bet that 7 out of 10 shooters that shoot free recoil do not have that perfect set up. With all this said, i do try to balance out my rifles properly when they are built. Lee

I shoot light grip or free depending on caliber and overall weight. I would not want any gun nose heavy unless its for offhand.
That said, can you have to much weight in the back end
