Mother Nature handed shooters a unique set of challenges at a range which is traditionally very forgiving. In particular, Sunday saw temperatures drop into the 40s with lots of wind and rain. In the second match of 200 yard LV aggregate, there were nine groups over an inch and two over two inches! In the end, Gary Sinclair was crowned the 2-gun champion.
Duke Rovarino was first in the LV 100 yard agg with a .2100, followed by Willard Honjiyo’s .2228 agg and John Pierce with a fine .2282. Ron Pepper was able to navigate the tough conditions in the LV 200 to win with a .2962 agg. Mike Sonsenko was second with .3689 and Willard Honjiyo was third with a .3884 agg. Ron’s dominant performance at 200 yards propelled him to a first place finish in the LV grand.
In the HV 100 Marty Rice with a .1786 agg narrowly edged out Mike Sonsenko and John Verhagen who had .1792 and .1796 aggs respectively. Gary Sinclair won the HV 200 yard agg with a .1733, followed by Duke Rovarino with a .2366 and Ron Pepper's .2655. Gary went on to win the HV grand.
Special thanks to Mike Sosenko and Joe Stanovich for stepping up to help keep matches at Visalia running smoothly after the untimely passing last fall of Dennis Thornbury. Joe is also running a benchrest clinic before some matches to promote the growth of sport and has successfully recruited new shooters.
