Dear all,

I also asked this in another forum (incl. other calibers), but as I shoot my 6PPCs in Benchrest, I would like to ask you guys as well.

Can you recommend a good value for freebore for 68grs Berger Flatbase bullets..?

Currently I am looking at .040
(std. from reamer-mfg. is .090- seems a little long to me?)

Do you think this will work for Berger Column bullets as well (if I ever want to try them)?

Sadly there are not many bullet options in germany, so I look at Berger exclusively as they are mostly available.

P.S. I already ordered (bushing) die blanks - typically I do not like to seat bullets below the area that has been sized by the bushing.

For my 6PPC's,I use a reamer with .030" freebore....2435" freebore diameter. I have been shooting Berger Column bullets for years with more than satisfactory performance in Kreiger and Bartlein barrels with 1-13.5 twist. In the past I have shot a lot of different bullets including Berger 68's. My early barrels were 1-14 twist and as much as .045" freebore, but I much prefer the .030". Some people have used .060" freebore with good results.
A few have even used .000" freebore...don't know about the results. I think your .040" is a good compromise. I think most 68gn bullets are .825"jackets and the Berger Column's are on .790"jackets. I don't shoot the loads most seem to prefer....I haven't found it necessary.
Good luck and stay safe.

When I finally switched over to PPC, I bought my own reamer. It's. a .045 freebore.
I shoot boattail bergers. There's not much in the case. I load to Jam. So if I drop a bullet, it can get cock eyed if not careful.. But on the flip side, If I want to put 31g in the case, that's no problem

For a PPC, the length of the freebore depends on three things, the length of the bullet, the ogive of the bullet and if the bullet is flat base or boat tail. Short and boat tail bullets need a shorter FB, like .030"-.040" Pointer ogives may need it too.
I have three PPC reamers with .045",.060" and .070" FB. My personal rifles have a ,070" FB. I shoot flat base bullets with a 7 3/4 ogive made on .750", .790" and .825 jackets. I shoot a lot of the .750" jacked bullets in the .070 FB chamber with good results.
They are only in the case about .060"+/-, but shoot quit well AND little or no compressed powder loads. (if that really means anything)

Thank you very much!
Actually I realized just a few days ago that my LV 6PPC has „FB .06“ engraved on the barrel.. —> The 68grs Flatbase Bergers work fine in that rifle so I will order a .060 freebore reamer.
thanks again!

(Picture shows bullet seated in increments to find „touch“ —> enough space to test with different seating depths incl. „into the lands“ & „jump“ —> seems OK to me)
