Proliferation of Round Actions?

Curiosity killed the cat ... what does my government do with "thousands" of MK13 actions?

Build Mark13 Sniper Rifles used by all the branches. Crane Naval Weapons Center does the builds. They are currently using AI chassis, Rem triggers and are re-soliciting a different barrel and suppressor yet unknown. Previous barrel supplier was Lilja and KAC suppressors.

BTW, I just talked to my girl at Shilen and she said the DGA was brought out in 1972 (I had to call them about something else). So, if Ralph didn't bring his out till about 1975 I guess the DGA was the first flat bottom custom action. As to quick as Jerry W mentions above, if you need a Shilen Select SS 20 cal barrel it will be "a while".
Last night I came across an article in the American Rifleman December 1976 about the Stolle actions. The author, Stuart Otteson, states the "The Panda action, intended for Varmint class rifles, was introduced in 1971".. So there??

The Small Arms Weapons Systems branchs (Under JSORD) move to Stillers actions was a well thought out process. It allows a standardized action with tolarances that makes logistical life cycle maintenance/support much easier. Trigger/bolt/barrel/firing pins, etc changes will be much easier and the risk factors of accuracy degration due to maintenance/support issues are minimized.

Jerry, did you provide any extra bolts with the 7.62 Nato/.308 case head size? Also, I'm sure the EO department could use some of your expertise.

They ordered a lot of spares, but no standard face bolts.

Jerry,

I'm gonna have to run out and check out some of these actions. Any unique features that I should look for?

I have two Stiller Viper actions and could not be more happy with anything else. I agree a lot of us tend to like flashy equipment, therfore some of the round actions polish up better than the anodized ones. JMO

I have a Stiller Diamondback that is a "prototype"
Not sure why its a prototype except that the tenon seems shorter than others.
Still shoots good though.
Thanks Jerry.
Always said the first gun I actually built would be a drop port.....

On Round VS Flat:

I have had built and owned a few rifles over the past dozen or so years. I use to have two 30-44 HBR rifles, one a Stiller Rattler and the other a Stiller Diamondback. I shot them for several years, sometimes alternately and sometimes on the same day in two seperate classes. I believed that the Rattler was a bit better than the Diamondback until I had sold them. The lad who bought the Diamondback shot a World Record with it in the second match he shot it in and I have not heard from the fellow who bought the Rattler. Both are "Killer" Rifles and I will opine that there is no difference between flat and round. A great rifle is a great rifle.
