Guys, I have a pact pro chronograph that I bought new about 7 years ago, it has worked well for me unless I shoot a rifle with a break, then it mis reads, and puts out error on the display, have any of you guys ran into this and does anyone have a fix for it? Thank you, Ron Tilley:confused:

Move the chronigraph another 4-5 feet. Sometimes the muzzle shock wave messes up the reading, at least it does on an Oehler.

A chronograph is a very sensitive instrument.

Environmental conditions can affect the readings.

Angle of the sun, wind, shade and or moving trees etc.

Battery?

And what Jerry said.

Last time out with my PACT I only got a couple of readouts that were so far off what they should have been along with a few no readout shots.

Being a very smart lad (or exceeding lazy) I'd cable tied the start and stop cables together like I'd done with my old Oehler 12. It had worked fine up until last week, over 15 years. Another shooter who was using a PACT commented that he'd tried cable tying his cables together and it gave him nothing but problems. Due to several things interfering I haven't had a chance to see if separating the cables will allow my PACT to return to service.

I have posted this question on 3 different boards, and have had alot of suggestions, I will try the placement out further first, I had those comments more than others, and move on till hopefully it will work. Larry, is there any long range comps at or near Billings, as I live just south of you on the state line near the pryors, I had competed in 600 and 1000 in the past but have not found anything near here to shoot at. Thanks, Ron Tilley

tilroot1,
I am not familar with pact, but I used to get crazy readouts with my Oehler M33 if I was using magnum handguns or rifles with brakes. I found that the muzzle blast was screwing with the electronics. I now take a couple of extra sand bags or wooden blocks to build a buffer wall between the readout box and the muzzle blast. I have also sometimes moved the readout behind the bench into a chair below the top of the bench. This cures the crazy readings with my M33. Is the readout separate from the skyscreens in your pact?
George

I have the same chrono as George, and have had the same problem, and used the same solution. If I protect the main unit from muzzle blast, the problem does not happen.

At work we setup a cardboard screen with a small hole in it, in front of the Ohler screens. Then shoot thru the hole, this helps stop the screens from picking up anything but the bullet.
