Yes, tinnitus very often comes along for nothing with noise induced hearing loss.
And not hearing the teenage girls and your wife "mumbling" is because usually age related hearing loss is a primarily hi frequency phenomenon and female and children's voices are an octave higher in frequency than a man's and we don't hear a woman's or child's voice as well as a man's. Noise induced loss is similar but often is accompanied by a notch at 6,000Hz or so due to totally damaged inner hair cells in the cochlea. And, that notch is the frequency of our tinnitus.
