North American Rimfire Postal Matches- A New way to have fun!

North American Rimfire Postal Matches

This is an exploratory email to seek out interest and support for a new organization that will hopefully become home to a successful Smallbore Benchrest shooting discipline.
A new twist on an old idea…shooters across the land shooting monthly matches on their own schedules and mailing in (perhaps photo and email) the results. With Factory, Custom and Unlimited classes there will be a comfort zone for every level of experience and sophistication. It will eventually, of course, rely on the competitors’ integrity and honor in complying with class limitations, general rules and regulations.
We are currentlt designing a new 8.5” x 14” target with four sighters and 20 record bulls, easily mailable. The targets will resemble and score like USBR targets, not ARA. We don’t mean to compete with the ARA or any other organization’s matches, but supplant them such that anyone, anywhere can compete on our small stage. This will allow shooters who don’t have access to the very few sanctioned ARA or USBR matches to still compete and have fun, which is the real goal here.
Brief Summary of prospective guidelines:
22LR only, any gun, triggers, barrels, scopes, stocks, etc
Factory guns, any weight, Custom guns,10.5 lb limit, Unlimited guns, no restrictions, may restrict type and cost of ammo
Shoot targets at 50-yards during daylight hours only, scored by another shooter or witness
Only one match target may be submitted per month
Open to all shooters in Canada, Mexico and the USA
Junior (1:cool: and Senior (19+) divisions
Targets at cost with match fees of only $2-3 per month
Please mention this to your smallbore friends and for starters send an email with your name and email contact information to NARPMINFO@YAHOO.COM. That is a personal email I just set up for this purpose only. Let’s see if we can get several hundred interested parties together for openers. I will post this introduction on several forums soon, and with your help we should be able to reach a substantial population. You also have my word that your information will not be disseminated to anyone for any reason. It is strictly for our internal organizational purposes.
Assuming we can get a few hundred shooters, we can keep the cost down to a few dollars per month and still award prizes such as silver coins and the like. More on that after we see what kind of general interest we can garner in the near term. I’d like to see if we can get this organized and operational by the end of the year, such that we can begin our matches by winter or early spring, as soon as the ‘snowbound’ can get to the range!

Very truly yours,

Thanks Francis!!

Given that it's a postal match it would seem to lend itself to an emailed photo of the target...a good photo.

That's certainly something we can try, emailing a photo. Wilbur, is here anything you can do to help promote this project, as reaching shooters is the real challenge here.
Thanks, Bill

I'll do, or try to do, most anything you ask me to do. I can supply the space, at no cost, for a website but can't put one together. You'll need a website!

Returned to add this:

I think, and these are thoughts of a 70 year old has been, that you need to quit talking and start doing. Come up with a domain name, put a website up with all the details (carefully thought details) and just see what happens. "Postal" matches have had their place and usually end only when the fellow running the show just quits doing it....and that's OK too. You're not going to get rich doing this so it's always (ALWAYS!) dependent on passion. When the passion is gone, so is the game....and that's perfectly OK as well.

Anybody volunteer to build a simple website for this venture? Two pages - one with the rules and one with the results. I'll start trying right now as I've got a pretty good webmaster I can call on for free help. Come up with a domain name and I'll register it. Send that domain name by email so we'll have a chance at it.

Thanks for the support and suggestions, Wilbur. So far we've enlisted 62 shooters and have an October match underway. Assuming we achieve success, I'll be back in touch regarding a website, but for now let's see if this thing can grow on its own. I'm really too old for this also, but am hopeful it's be successful. Meanwhile, anyone interested please email me with your name and state of residence at narpminfo@yahoo.com and I'll get info out to you immediately. This is a no-cost, painless venture!

Thanks again,

Bill

Targets

Do the targets have to be printed on 8.5 x 14 paper or can you use 8.5 x 11?

Just ran off 7 targets on stiff card paper at 8.5 X 11 with no issues. As long as they don't get wet and the bulls wash away.

One question. No witness when you shoot. What do you do about that issue?
No $$ involved so lying won't get you anywhere? (except in your own mind) You'll only be fooling yourself.:p
And there's no fool like an old fool.:)

I am sorry to report, but Bill has past away. He suffered a heart attack on Dec 29.

He was not only a great shooter and proponent of Benchrest Sports, but a good friend and great person

I am sorry for your loss. I only knew Bill via email for the matches but he seemed to be a fine person and I am sure he will be missed.

North American Rimfire Postal Matches - Bill Buck

NARPM has been the sole creation of Bill who managed it without help. Sadly, I fear the matches are over unless restarted by someone else. I do not know of anyone who has access to membership contact information as it was really a one man operation. (I speak as a close friend of Bill's for a number of years. We essentially relocated together from NC to FL this spring and our families remain close.) His passing is a loss to many. May he rest in peace.

North American Rimfire Postal Matches

To those who have expressed their ability and willingness to continue the NARPM, my sincere thanks. Bill would be very gratified.
Please keep me posted as I hope to become an active participant as my personal circumstances permit. Thank you.

NARPM Update - Please Read

All, with Bills's passing, Norm and I are carrying on with his legacy. Please see below for information on how to participate, and the January match that just got underway.

Please see the three attached PDF’s for the January 2019 William Buck Memorial Postal Match. These files include an Invitation, Rules/Regulations and the Target.

We hope that you will participate in this months match but recognize that weather and a short month may require that you pass.

We’ve made a few changes, especially with the rifle classifications, that you will find in the rules and regulations. The target has also been modified to reflect the classification changes. Please remember to enter details of your rifle/scope/ammo and mark your classification.

If you haven’t responded with a statement of your interest in participating please respond so we can maintain a viable mailing list.

Finally, please email your targets to NARPMShooter@outlook.com by January 31, 2019.

Thank you,

Norm Flynn and Larry Mills
