Does anyone still use the Niel Jones powder measure? I know the newer Harrell measures have the ball bearings, but does the Jones have the bearings? I have a friend that has an early model Harrell (no bearings) that locked up and when he sent it back to Harrells they told him some residual metal particals from the machinening process caused the drum and body to gaul and lock up..
Also does the Jones measure have click settings?
I guess I am asking if the Niel Jones measure is still a good choice for 100/200yd benchrest, where adjustments for D/A are needed during a match..?

I have two of them, the oldest is a blued one I bought about 1987. Never had any problem what so ever with it, works just as good today as the day I bought it. When I needed a second one for my son to use, I bought a used one from e-bay, it is Stainless Steel and works just as well. I would recommend it without reservation. And Neil is a super guy as well.

I have a couple of the old style Neil Jones. These are like the Culver conversion, made on the Lyman 55 measure.

Neil also has a "new" (been out 10 years or so) made from scratch except the metering drum is just like the ones I have.

Does the Jones have "Clicks"? Yes, just like the Culver and and Harrell. They are probably click-to-click compatible as to how much powder they drop. They will all be within about 1/4 grain at the same setting.

On that note, is the Jones powder measure a "center-drop" design, like the Brunos? Thanks.

hmmmm......

I detect a common thread here.

I had a Jones 55 conversion for a long time and gave that to my son sometime after buying one of his "new" measures. Actually I had both for about 10-12 years. They're really nice measures. The newer one has much finer clicks than the old 55 conversion and of course its prettier.

I have never owned a jones measure , I own a very nice Harrels measure with Ball Bearings I got at a very reasonable price from a friend who did not like it near as much as his Jones. This friend bought himself another Jones, he may even have 3 so unquestionably he thinks its a very very good measure.

I have owned two of them

I would opine that they are the best constructed measure I have seen so far. I sold mine because I couldn't make it drop charges any more accuratrely than my Harrels. I gave up on dropping charges and bought an RCBS Charemaster with scale and now drop close to the deisred charge with an inexpensive measure and trickle the remainder.

I am in the camp of wanting to have each and every charge be as close to the desired ammt as I can get them. I have yet to be able to develop a tecnique that will allow me to do that with a measure alone.

Bottom line; excelently constructed measure- no more accurate than any of the others from my checking.
