trying out a new sport i goto the range every other weekend and shoot both rifle and pistol and i have been seeing some benchrest shooters their everytime i go (gotten to know each other pretty good) yesturday i picked up a savage sv12abt308 to start out with set the trigger to 2lbs for right now (alot better than the one in my ar i shoot). i have a few questions if ya'll dont mind helping me out on the learning curve . i will be shooting mainly @ 100yrds with 300 as an option .
i am going to order either the rcbs gold metal match series bushing neck sizing set or redding type s match bushing 3 die set.

cal 308 -what gr bullet to reload (i have been reloading since 1984 ) for those set distances been thinking nosler bt in 150-168gr

powder -i have various powders but what is your thoughts not worried so much about specific charge since i work up all loads and run thru my chrono for best results.

cases not sure what i'll be starting with will probably get some loaded rounds (hornady) to shoot the barrel in and go from there.

now the hard part optics
i want a var. power looking at 4x16x 40-50mm or 6x24x40 or 50mm i'm looking at 200-400 for a scope any sugestions?

thanks for your time and i'm hoping to make this sport and forum my home

In my humble opinion you only need two dies for BR. A full length sizing die and a micrometer-adjustable seating die. I'd go with the REDDING TYPE S Match Full Length Die Set. Don't forget the bushings.

If you want to be competive you need to buy some BR bullets, and pick up a few books on BR, such as Ratigans book, Newick's book and precision reloading. Everything is discussed in detail in those books. Its a great sport but a little learning curve. Wind flags is a MUST!!!

I would get a weaver T36 for your scope
