Hard bolt opening problem solved, I think
After some roundabout phone calls, I wound up talking to Walter Harrel. After some discussion, I checked my Harrells FL die. It looked ok and as usual after running a couple of pieces of fired brass thru the die, there was not change in dimension.
I looked at the area between the shellholder and the bottom of the die and guessed at .100 of space.
I put a piece of brass in and pulled the lever and measured the web. The same, as usual.
After thinking about it a bit, I put the brass back in the shellholder and pulled the handle and pulled a bit harder. Lo and behold, the ram went over center. I measured the web and it was .003 smaller.
It appears I just wasn't pulling hard enough to close that gap, which I didn't even notice.
I'm going to the range this Friday and see what happens.
Thanks,
Roy
