What are your thoughts on this, especially the dual ports?

No problem with neighbours, I hope!I was lucky--mine's a screamer!
Ya know... I've never asked the factory engineers about this one yet (they told us a dual port action was coming last spring), but if I had to guess, just from looking at the configuration - 29" 'extra heavy' barrel (their words, not mine), 12.75 lbs, and chambered in two calibers - 6.5-284 & a fast twist 6mm BR -that see far more use @ 600-1000yd BR than short-range group or score BR... I'd be thinking it was intended for long range BR, not point-blank BR. Throw a Farrel 20 or 30 moa base, a set of Burris Signature Zee rings and a Nightforce BR 12-42x on there (~3.35lbs on my scale), and I think it'd still make Light Gun weight (17lbs) with room to spare (16.1lbs). Use a Weaver T24 or T36 and you'd be even further 'shy' of the limit. Whether a person could drive said rig well enough to be competitive at the local club match... who knows?
Sorry Stephen... it ain't all about 100-200yd group shooting

But this new Savage has the makings of going both ways. The calibers offered indicate mid range but a different bolt offering and a 2 barrel set could make the gun a LV/HV combo gun for short range as well as mid range.
