new March 8-80X56, downside??

Write the check !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had one for almost a year and absolutely love it. It is extreamly clear and bright. Are you a 100 & 200 BR shooter or long range?? Don't forget to order rings with it, the tube is bigger than any other March.

Al, I'm looking for something that will spot 6MM bullet holes at 600 when mirage allows. I have a Leupold 45 and several 36's for closer.

thanks

Al, I don't know about the 8-80 March, but the 10-60 I have on my HV has glass as good as a Leupold 45x, which I have always considered the standard.........jackie

The reason I ask is...... the basic rules of optics state that "everything comes at a price."

The first March was a 40X. And it worked as it should.....

The next step was a power boost, still worked good.

And THEN they came out with these ridiculous variables :) 10 to freakin' 60!!!

????

And now 8 to 80???

It just still seems too good to be true.

:)

Al, one thing I wish I could figure out is when I set my 10-60 on 50x, it is clear as glass, (pun intended). But both of my 50x March fixed scopes suck as far as the clarity goes. Always have that "fuzzy" look.........jackie

advertising hype..it has 50 power, no one said it was usable ??
???
or are maybe your 2 bad ?
have you seen others that were better ?

Jackie,

I have 2 March 50x HR fixed power scopes too and they are as clear or clearer than my Leupold 45x scopes. I also have 2 36-55 variables on my LV guns and I really like them. I don't have a problem with the eye relief on them as some did. It is a challenge to make weight with a 36-55, tuner and 21" barrell though, I use it all.

Al, as it happens, I talked to someone at Kelbly's a couple weeks ago, and they had an 8-80 in stock. But it was a tactical scope with that cluttered reticle. You might consider that a downside . . . The young man on the phone said the 10-60 was the largest BR scope.

The scope isn't for me (I wish!) it's for a hunting rifle. "Busy" reticle is fine. Problem with Kelbly's one is that it's moa the knobs with a millirad reticle.

bummer

Jackie, not to be a twit but have you really adjusted the eyepiece (ocular lens) to your own eyes?

Al, I have tried everything.

Don't get me wrong, I love both 50x models because they do what is most important, hold POA. But all you have to do is set the 10x60 on the bench next to either, and the difference is to be seen.......jackie

Al ,I don't remember the March 8-80X56 tactical scope having an MOA adjustment and Mil reticle. I went to the specifications chart at http://www.deon.co.jp/march/.

It lists the March 8-80X56 as having MOA adjustment and MOA reticle. Unless I'm reading the chart wrong.

I spoke with Ian this morning. The only reason they HAVE the scope is because some team special ordered them and one guy dropped out. March is making only 12 of these 8-80's per month..... we'll probably just go with a "little" scope like a 5-50 or a 10-60. Kinda' hard to figure mixed yardages/magnifications when the adjustments track differently than the reticle is marked.

Sounds like an optical design or execution flaw. There is NO reason the optical quality should be less than other models of various X. I would send them back with a letter of explanation and dissatisfaction. --Greg

I have 2 50's and they are the same way.
