Looking thru some info, I find that the NBRSA began in 1951 with the 1st Nat's in 1954.

When did the disgruntled, LOL, walk away and form the IBS? What year? 1970?

Just a simple question I hope.

Their records for 3 gun championships date back to 1970 (From their web site)
If not that year its very close.
They may have organized a year or two earlier??
Bob White would probably know the history!

Calvin,

I've have been BR shooting for 53 years. Started in 1969. As a newbie I didn't pay any attention to what was going on with NBRSA/IBS, but I think it involved money and who and how it was managed!

Any Ole Timers out there correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I was not tuned into exactly what happened.

I should clarify

This is not to open old blood wounds.

Let's keep it above board. My term of disgruntled is meant to be some humor.

I am asking as we are trying to gather notes to try and get some new shooters to the sport.

So Steve, the NW, how old is the oldest recollections in the NW?

CP, I seen that in the IBS pages about the records starting about 1970 so that is kind of what I was thinking around for a time frame.

Calvin, a good source would be Joe Krupa. Of, course Gammon. I read somewhere the split was about money and "Shotgun News" advertising.
Mike Walker started both Org's. Mike Walker hired Brennan of Precision Shooter Magazine. Most people I shot with had both memberships to get the magazine. And Brennen used to follow things on BC.

Calvin,

The oldest BR trophy here in the NW was started in 1944. I was 2 years old at the time! It is still contested, the famous "Sniper King" It is awarded for the smallest 10 shot group fired at 200 yards.
Unfortunately the guys I stared with 50+ years ago have all passed. They could shed more info this than I. Organized BR, as we know it now, came about here in the early '60's (I think), but I'm pretty sure there was BR at some level well prior to the '60"s. An organizations called the Puget Sound Snipers Congress was key in getting things going in the NW (I think) probably in the '50's
