Ammo, ammo everywhere but not a box to shoot
I strongly feel that hoarding is the largest cause of the present ammo shortage. I am beginning to see a lot more loaded ammo in stores at exorbitant prices. Handgun ammo is plentiful if you shoot FMJ. The recent dramatic price surge in primer and to a lesser extent powder prices has me scratching my head. Most of us are BR shooters so we are well acquainted with hand loading. The price rise of loaded ammo affects us a lot less then most shooters. The price rise in components does affect us. Many of us have stocked up on components remembering past shortages. There are some shooters who have crossed over into the hoarding psychopathy. You can almost picture them as Scrooge McDuck sitting in his vault not on a pile of cash but one of primers and powder (mind the cigar there Mr. McDuck). I notice Biden has his hands too full of crises to mouth off about guns lately. This will probably ease the hoarding a bit. I heard a rumor that Biden has promised to appoint a woman of color to head the ATF. So far Whoopie Goldburg, Lori Lightfoot and Beto O'Rourke are the front runners. Beto is not a woman and he is very white but he wants a government job any job so badly that Joe decided to give him a shot at the ATF. Lori has my vote. Look at what she has done for gun violence in Chicago.

No. Crooks eliminating each other will be yet another justification for ridding the country of firearms and ammo.
Proof: In response to "criminal activity" in Chicago and other cities, Tommy guns and suppressors were subjected to a $200 Federal tax, plus paperwork and background checks following enactment of the 1934 National Firearms Act. Note: FDR would have eliminated handguns via NFA if he could have found a legal reason to do so.
Proof: The Stockton, CA massacre of kids in a school yard was reason for California to enact their "Assault Weapon" law. This "well crafted" piece of "legislation" has resulted in one dismissal of a prosecution (due to ambiguity in the "law"), and a roughly 75% noncompliance rate by non-lawbreaking owners. It is mildly humorous that one of the crafters of this bill is on record stating that the solution a 19 year old Olympic pistol shooters' request to get rapid fire pistols exempted from the ban was to "move to another state".
Proof: The Federal "Assault Weapons" of the "Brady Bill" was President Clinton's attempt to take the CA Assault Weapons law to the Nation. The only way it passed was due to a 10 year expiration clause in the legislation. This law banned further importation of certain types of firearms, or the manufacture for sale to consumers of more that a certain number of "evil" features. Results:
- Manufactures limited guns to a set number of "evil" features below the Federal Limit;
- Aftermarket suppliers provided parts which incorporated "evil" features, but sold them with a slip of paper warning consumers about adding these parts to newly manufactured weapons due to Federal and State laws;
- Manufacture of new "Armor Piercing" ammunition was forbidden to non-police or military individuals. M2 (30-06 AP) and M855 (5.56mm "Green Tip") ammo were exempt from this regulation due to existing legislation. ATF's attempt to ban "Green Tip" was stalled by their own statements that the ammo was "non-armor piercing";
- The Democratic Party lost the House and Senate in 1986, due to "overreach" in their legislation, and;
- Following expiration of the "Assault Weapons" portion of the "Brady Bill", the FBI's conclusion was the ban had "no effect on criminal activity with these types of weapons".
