mag cut-out on a 700 long action

I have been having a few long range hunting rifles built and decided to go with the ultra mag chambers, .338 and .300 RUM. I did not know until having them built, how much of the bullet is shoved into the case just to fit the BDL magazine. I am wondering what the options are to be able to have something fitted to allow a shallower seating depth on the bullets or am I restricted to the cut out on the bottom of the action its self. If possible I would like to stay with the BDL style and not a detachable mag. All opinions are appreciated. Ron Tilley

The magazine cutout in the receiver must be milled longer as does the bolt stop need to have material removed to allow the bolt to have more rearward travel. The floorplate must also be milled to accept the longer box.The Ultra-Mag cartridges will require a "window box". Instructions come with the new box.
This: http://www.wyattsoutdoor.com/mag.html will show the different boxes available, most of which can be purchased from Brownells. The ultra-mag cartridges will feed and eject in the 700 (barely) but everything must be right.

I use either a long Wyatt box or a Wby 30/378 box. Both require mill work on the action. I've found I can notch the mag box on the bottom, rear to clear a standard BDL floorplate. I like the the center feed Wby box the best. Feeds correctly everytime.Loading is most easily accomplished by opening the floor plate and dropping the shells in. Feed lips on mag box will also need to be tweeked.
