Am looking for info on loading the .308 for a M1A and anyone who has experience with loading length, throating, single shot adapter, etc.
Thanks

for a bone stock standard M1A, load for magazine length, anything else wont net you much in terms of accurcay gains. for a supermatch or built up rifle, not using the magazine, you can seat further out, but you still do not want to seat the bullet into the lands.

William........................................... ...................................

Bullet weight should be 168 gr to 180 gr......I like Match Kings the best. 41.7 Grains of Varget with the 168 gr Match King in my rifles shoots groups as good as most bolt rifles. Cartridge OAL should be about .050 off of the magazine. You might want to go a little higher with the powder charge, but in my experience your groups start to spread. Good Luck!!

Our standard load was 168gr SMK, 41.5gr IMR-4895, Fed Match Primer, in LC Match cases.

If it won't shoot with that load, there is something else to be looking at. By the way...there are several of the better know M1A guys that believe that Varget could be a little off on the pressure curve for an M1A being a semi auto and don't recommend it for this application..
