Looking for information on older Wichita action

I have searched the net to no avail for information about a rifle with an older Wichita action. It has a pretty large action, RBLP, with a 3 digit sn on the bottom of the action. (I think I have seen Wichita actions that were smaller). The barrel has no gunsmiths name on it but it has stamped on the bottom, near the receiver "281SM" plus the 3 digit serial number that is on the action.
Could Wichita have barreled this action? Does the "281SM" have any relevance? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Just a wild guess but it could have been barreled by Seely Masker, one of the all time great benchrest gunsmiths who has passed on. The '218' could well have been a number he used to signify something in his records, who knows? George Ulrich once was a great fan of Wichita actions and may well still be. He may see this and have some input.

hello mickey, i would agree with you seely used quite a few wichita's. sounds like you have the 1375 model they also made i believe was a 1210 model if you need you can still call nolan jackson, he's the one that made them. email if you need phone #. george

I have been talking with Skip Nelson about Wichita actions for sale. He told me that "We currently are not in production. If the plans are good we will in the very near future. We do have some Classic actions in stock. Please contact 316-265-0661 for pricing." So you may want to contact him about this action but according to what he told me is that 1375 is 1.375 OD and the Classic is 1.2 OD. hope this helps.

Wichita actions

DBL -

You can still contact Wichita Arms, as they are still in business !

I don't have thier tele # handy, but you can grab it off the net,
or call Sinclairs and ask them for it.

If the action is 1.375" in diam, it's a Wichita WBR1375.

They also made a 1.200" diam action ( and a "shellholder"-type action
called a " Mini ".

Wichita themselves may be able to shed light on the rifle you have
questions about.

Best regards,
