Hoping to push a 300 gr bullet at 3000+
Maximum accuracy (turn neck, etc,) in a rifle that weighs approx 20 lbs
Looking at 338 Kahn, 338 Lupua imp, open to other suggestions

Thinking along the lines of:
Bat action
30 in barrel (Have been partial to Pac-nor, but open to suggestions)
300 gr. SMK or the Bergers (if they ever come out)
Jewel trigger
McMillin Baker

If you are a known Gunsmith to the guys on this site, or if you have one that you know and use I am all ears.

Thanks
John

gunsmith

Where are you? I know you can do it by mail but I have found its usually better to deal face to face .

338??

I dont know much about a 338kahn but I think you be pressing a 338lap imp todo 3000fps+ w/a 300gr smk,Try LAWTON Rifles in Montana and look at the 338 Snipe-Tac.

300 gr. 3000fps+

I would look into the 338 378 wby.
over 3000 fps with 300 mk. very easy.
AND NO FIRE FORMING
as for gunsmiths check out the original pa. 1000yrd benchrest clubs web page.

One plus on Bruce Baer- been building those big boomers for years.

Does Borden make an action large enough to handle a 338 Lapua based cartridge? I have on of his Timberline actions, one of the finest actions I have.

Bruce Baer

We have some very good smiths on this forum and who are not on the forum, but build these guys rifles. Dave Tooley is super and is as experienced as anybody doing what you ask. I think you will have a very pleasant experience.
Keep us posted and photos.

Just and added note on building a 338..

Several of the custom action manufactures, Stiller,Pierce, Borden, Kelbly, Lawton, Bat, etc., either make or have talked about making beefed up actions to handle the 338. With .750 or larger bolts. This is a much needed safety factor. There is a video floating around on the net of a 338 Lapua being fired in a Remington 700. The action flexes and the front two scope screws snap in the base.
